 Introduction :

NATIONAL SCHOOL OF DRAMA

• National School of Drama (NSD), an autonomous organization under the

Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is theatre training institution
based in New Delhi. The school was established in 1959 as one of the
constituent units of Sangeet Natak Akademi.

• Candidates holding a graduate degree can apply for admission.

• NSD Delhi offers 26 seats for each academic session. Out of 20 seats, 4
seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC candidates, preferably those from
families traditionally belonging to the performing arts.

• This programme includes subjects such as theatre history, make-up, light,

acting and literature. These subjects are taught through the workshops.

• Three-year full-time Diploma Courses in Dramatic Arts

The National School of Drama provides a three-year full-time Diploma
Course for entrants intending to make theatre their profession.

 Aim & Objectives:

Aim
The central aim of the course is to prepare the students in the practice of theatre.
To this end, a variety of practical skills must be developed and a corpus of
knowledge acquired,the aim to provide the education those can not afford high
fee but they have talent beasuse acting is talent which can enhance but can not
get from somewhere NSD is deemed university which is the best institute in asia
for theatres and give them a greate platform
NSD is more cheaper than other institutes of film industries which only finds
talent and give them a high stage to perform there are many actors who studied
in NSD and now they are known faces not only in bollywood also in
hollywood .

Objectives:
• To design saparate building blocks with hierarchy as per the
requirements
• To provide rehearsals stages and other facilites in the hostels campus
and also maintain safety
• To provide the facilities which are the part of this industry and help to
• tech them our societ culture with modern technics
• To create an active envirment for students which will not make them
feel dull

Requirments:
Performing Spaces
National School of Drama has four performing spaces available on campus for
the staging of its productions. These performing spaces are not commercial but
function in the interest of academic activities and programmes run by the
School.

Seating arrangement depends upon the set approximately 75-100 persons
• Storage of Drama Stuff And Making sets by its self in workshop
Subjects such as acting, movement, light, make-up, theatre history and literature among
others, have been taught at such workshops. With about 55 events per year, they have led to
a major revival of theatre activity in the country. Over the years many workshops have been
held under the auspices of the Extension Program of the National School of Drama.

• Repertory company block

The company presented works of various playwrights and directors who have been
associated with it from time to time. The objective of the Repertory Company was to
provide a platform to the graduates of the School in their academic interest and to
perform plays professionally. where is acadmic offices and actor rooms etc.

There are separate hostels for girls and boys. Accommodation provided to the
students may be on a room sharing or dormitory basis. It is compulsory for
all students to join the hostel. Hostel rent per seat is Rs. 110.00 per month.
