In this research, we would like to thank God for giving us health and strength we needed in order
to complete this SBA. We would also like to thank our teacher Miss Hutchinson for giving us
this assignment so we could get a better understanding on this topic “An Investigation into the
relocation of Elegant Jewellers and its impact on the profitability on the firm”. The researchers
extend their gratitude to everyone who guided them throughout the course of this assessment.
We would also like to thank our participants in our research for answering our questions and
providing us with the necessary information. Gratitude and appreciation are extended to our
parents for their continuous encouragement and financial support that facilitated the completion
of this research.

INTRODUCTION
Inside this School Based Assessment SBA, you will see the investigation into the relocation of
Elegant Jewellers and its impact on the profitability on the firm. The researchers seek to
understand the reasons for the relocation and its impact on the profitability on the firm.
To gather this information for the research, interview and questionnaire was distributed to the
staff of the organization. This research outlines the findings from the investigation.

Background /Overview
Elegant Jewellers is a registered sole trader company which started in 2017. It is a retail store
that specialises in household appliance, technological gadgets, colognes, high-end jewellery and
car audio systems. They sell exquisite gift items, camera monitoring systems and now they sell

Methodology
In order to get the information, we needed for the topic “An investigation in the relocation of
Elegant Jewellery and its impact on the profitability of the firm. The researchers decided to use

A total of ten questionnaires were prepared and distributed to the workers of Elegant Jeweler’s
(Mandeville) on January 16, 2021. The questionnaire consists of eleven closed ended questions
and two open ended questions. Questionnaires were selected as they are easy to analyze. The
questions were collected January 22, 2021. All the questions were completed and returned.
Interview
On 5th March 2020, an interview was carried out for half hour at Elegant Jeweler’s
(Mandeville). We met with Ms. Dougherty the owner who answered some of our questions about
the business. An interview was selected as it gives the researchers the ability to view the
expressions of the interviewee. The challenge was the length of time we had to wait to carry out
the interview.

Figure 1, question 1 shows the percentage of males (50%) and females (50%) currently working
at the business.

Figure 2, question 2 states that most employees have been with the organization for more than

Figure 3, question 5 indicates the reasons for the relocation of the store. The level of access to
customer accounts for 60%, access to parking space 25%, 10% the size of the store and 5% for
the profits.

Figure 4, question 6 states how sakes were like at the previous location. It is showing that sakes
were very good at 60%, successful at 25% and breaks even at 10%.
Figure 5, question 8 outlines the reasons why this current location was selected. The main
reason was the fact there is less competition as agreed by 40% of the respondents. 30% stated
that it gives greater access to the customers and 20% said the store was bigger and 10% stated

Findings
From the questionnaire and interview conducted, the researchers were able to gain the following
information. The main reasons for the relocation of the store were outlined by the participants.
The level of access to customer accounts for 60%, access to customers parking space 25%, 10%

less competition as agreed by 40% of the respondents. 30% stated that it gives greater access to
the customers and 20% said the store was bigger and 10% stated that profits are greater. He
outlined that at the pervious location sales were dropping due to the level of competition and

feedback has been mostly positive has seen by 70% of customers say that the location is
excellent, 25% say that its very good and 5% stated not bad.
The manager says that the current location has challenges such as excessive dust and dirt from

Conclusion
The aim of the research was to determine impact of relocation on the profitability of Elegant
Jewellers (Mandeville). The research indicates that the main reasons for the relocation of the
store were the level of competition, size of the store and access to their customers.
The relocation of the business has positively impacted its profitability and their customers prefer
their new location. There are plans in place to remedy some of the challenges they are currently
facing.

Recommendation
The business should have a closer relationship with the police so they can more patrol outside the
business place or higher a security so that the vendors can stop vending Infront the business. We
believe that the company should also seek a better location where customers can get parking as
there is no parking space available at the current location. Also, the company should asphalt the
road Infront the business to control the dust and dirt that is affecting the business. They could
also advertise their business using social media platforms to draw more customers. We also
suggest that they put out a customer suggestion box to find out how best they can help meet their
customers expectations.
