Advantages and Disadvantages of Migration

Migration is the movement of people from one permanent home to the next. This
movement is changing the population of the place. International migration is a
movement from one country to the next. There are many advantages and
disadvantages of migration in the host country (the one people go to) and the
country losing people. Some of them will be described below.

One of the advantages of migration is job opportunities. In order to live in this

modern world, everyone needs money, and when your country is unable to provide
work opportunities to allow you to earn the money you need, immigration seems to
be the only choice left. In countries like Canada, they are searching for people to join
their community and enhance the economy. They would welcome any high or low
skilled worker they can find.

Another advantage is a better lifestyle. People migrate because they are not happy
with their life. Sometimes the richest people of the country cannot have access to
certain lifestyle amenities that are readily available only for the poor people of the
country. For example, if you studied the hotel business and live in a country where
tourism is bad like Tuvalu, then you won’t get as much money as you will in France.
By moving from Tuvalu to France, then you will get more money, leading to a better
lifestyle.

The last advantage is safety and security. In some countries the security is horrible,
making them very dangerous to the public, people can not go out without getting
robbed, they must sleep with a gun next to them just in case something happens, the
girls and women must at all times not go out alone. All these things are not fine and
definitely not worth suffering. If a person migrates it will allow them to go from those
dangerous activities to not even locking the door at night. For example, migrating

Now the disadvantages, racism. Racism is the discrimination of different races. Even
though racism is not as high as it was years ago, it is still happening and increasing.
When migrating from a country of Indian people to a country of white people, the
white people could discriminate the Indians making them feel very bad. Another
example is Nigerians moving to America.

Another disadvantage is when migrating gaining citizenship could be difficult. The

privileges of a resident of the nation are not the same by a person with a working
visa. While you may end up paying the same amount of taxes as a citizen, you may
not be getting the same perks. You could be applying for citizenship visa but you
could always be declined because of your race or age or criminal record, whatever
the case is, it could be hard for you to fix that.
The last disadvantage is the fact that people in different countries have different
cultures and environments. This means that people could have a hard time adjusting
to new cultures and holidays. The people, the customs, or even something as simple
as traffic rules might turn out to be so different from the place you are from originally.
For example in Greece, they don’t have a half-term like in the British system, they
just go on for the 3 months without a holiday in the middle.

As mentioned above there are many pros and cons of migration. These are the
advantages stated: new job opportunities, better lifestyle and safety and security.
The disadvantages stated are: racism, adjusting to different culture and environment
can be difficult and gaining citizenship can be hard. There are many more
advantages and disadvantages but overall migration is an adventure that people
should experience.
