Phlegmatic
The phlegmatic temperament is traditionally associated with water. People with this
temperament may be inward and private, thoughtful, reasonable, calm, patient,
caring, and tolerant. They tend to have a rich inner life, seek a quiet, peaceful
atmosphere, and be content with themselves. They tend to be steadfast, consistent in
their habits, and thus steady and faithful friends.
Extraversion/Introversion
7 out of 24
Introverts, on the other hand, (also about 16 percent of the population) are chronically
over-aroused and jittery and are therefore in need of peace and quiet to bring them
up to an optimal level of performance.

12/4/21, 7:52 PM Eysenck’s Personality Inventory (EPI) (Extroversion/Introversion) • Go Government
Most people (about 68 percent of the population) fall in the midrange of the
extraversion/introversion continuum, an area referred to as ambiversion.
Neuroticism/Stability
3 out of 24
Neurotic people — who have low activation thresholds, and unable to inhibit or
control their emotional reactions, experience negative affect (fight-or-flight) in the
face of very minor stressors — are easily nervous or upset.
Emotionally stable people — who have high activation thresholds and good
emotional control, experience negative affect only in the face of very major stressors
— are calm and collected under pressure.
Lie
3 out of 9
It measures how socially desirable you are trying to be in your answers. Those who
score 5 or more on this scale are probably trying to make themselves look good and
are not being totally honest in their responses.
