9) Who was Ferdinand? How did he come to the island?


Ans) Ferdinand was the son of Alonso, the Duke of Naples.
Ferdinand had plunged in to the sea when the tempest had wrecked the ship then he
swam across the river and reached the island.

10) How did Miranda react when she saw Ferdinand?


Ans) When Miranda saw the handsome Ferdinand, she at once thought that it was a
spirit of the island. Miranda had never seen another man apart from her father since
her infancy so Miranda could not believe that Ferdinand was a human being.

11) What did Prospero intend to do with Ferdinand?


Ans) Prospero intended to get Ferdinand married to his daughter Miranda so that
Miranda could become the queen of Naples. Being a father, Prospero was worried
about the future of his daughter and he also wanted to get convinced whether
Ferdinand was constant in his love towards Miranda or not. So, Prospero decided
to imprison Ferdinand first and make him do hard labour like collecting wood if
after that also Ferdinand’s love does not change for Miranda then Prospero would
get both of them married.
12) Who was Alonso? How did he come to the island?
Ans) Alonso was the Duke of Naples.
After the ship was overturned by the tempest, Ariel one of the spirits of Prospero ,
on being ordered by Prospero, helped him to reach the island.

13) How did Antonio and Alonso become repentant?


Ans) When Antonio and Alonso were tired on the island, Ariel arranged a banquet
containing delicious food for them but as soon as they approached to have the
food, the entire banquet vanished away. After that Ariel appeared Infront of them
in the form of harpy, a veracious monster with wings and in that terrific form Ariel
went on reminding Antonio and Alonso about the wrong they had done to Prospero
by unlawfully banishing him from his own kingdom and helplessly leaving
Prospero and his infant daughter in the middle of the sea to die. Ariel told them
that for their cruel action against the Duke, they are suffering from the tempest and
torture. This made Antonio and Alonso feel remorseful. They were repentant for
their misdeed.

14) How did Prospero get back his dukedom?


Ans) Antonio and Alonso were repentant. They realised that they had done wrong
to Prospero but Prospero had forgiven them. Antonio and Alonso were so
remorseful that they gave back Prospero his own kingdom.

15) What did Prospero do to Ariel when he left the island for Milan?
And) Prospero set Ariel free when he left for Milan.
