HOW IS PLASTICS MADE?
Most plastics are made from
chemicals that come from
petroleum (oil from DEEP in the
ground), natural gas (air from the
ground that does magical things),
or coal. Heating these things
makes them break down into very
small pieces. Plastics can be
made into any shape by heating
them . The heat softens the plastic,
which can then be poured into a
mold.

However, it takes millions of years

to make again!
1 million years is 365250000
(wow!) days!
Try counting the dots on the right
of the page! You cannot right? But
just help me imagine 20 more of
the dots, but each dot is 1 year!
How do they get oil, natural
gas, and coal?
They get oil from digging deep in the
seas or pumping down on the ground.
They get natural gases also from
deep underground, they can find it in
caves!

WHAT CAUSES PLASTIC POLLUTION?
There are many ways plastic suddenly pollutes.

1. Trash. Just trash.

Many people are littering amongst the streets or throwing trash in
the river! This can then make its way into the sea and into the
fishies!

2. There's too much plastic!

Plastic is one of the most popular materials because it's cheap.
Some people do not reuse plastic products which then leads to a
huge amount of plastic waste.

3. Plastic takes too long to go away!

Plastic takes 400 years to go away. This is 4 of the queen's of
England's lifetimes! It'll be 2422 when the plastic that was littered
goes away!
 Oh noo! Plastics are hurting us!
Plastic rubbish is breaking down in our
oceans and are turning into mini plastics
and the tinnie tiny fishes eat the plastics!
And then the bigger fishies eat the
smaller ones and the plastic stays in their
body. 🤮 And it is not healthy! Plastics can
do very badly to their body. They can
even die!

How does it hurt us?

When we eat the fishes, they have
plastic in their meat! After we
digest it, and if we eat enough, we
can die..

HOW DO YOU HELP?
We can help by reducing,
recycling and reusing our plastic.

How do we reduce?
We can stop using single-use
plastics like bottles and bags,
instead, we can use tote bags and
reusable bottles!

How do we recycle?
You can see different colored bins
in certain places! There will be a
label on the side of the bin. If it
says plastic, throw your plastic
things inside!

How do we reuse?
We can use leftover plastic bottles
after we drink our soft drinks and
things and make them into a robot
or a China-brand barbie!
