Essay on a plastic ocean

Introduction
Plastics are very convenient and cheap to use, they are created into many objects such as lighters,
plastic bags, pens, computers, etc. However, the problem is people around the world use them a lot
but they do not think about how to disintegrate them that it does not harm the environment. They
just dump them to the ocean, junk-station or river, but this action will bring us many potential
dangers.

Body
We have known that rivers are connected to the ocean, which means when we dump plastics trash
into the river, it will lead them to the sea. Moreover, when the plastics are brought to the junk
station, few of them are reuse or recreate to the new object, and the rest of them will be buried in
the ground. However, plastics are very hard to dissolve, it will take hundreds of years and its poison
will soak into underground water and follow it to the river and the ocean. So that, all methods that
we use all lead to the sea, but how it can be dangerous?

It can affect the biodiversity of the ocean, as the fishes can eat plastics, and then they will die
because plastics cannot be dissolved in a short period. This means they will die a lot because the
amount of trash that we dump in the ocean is very huge, there are around 8 million of tons of
plastics in the sea in 2016. Moreover, some plastics bag can be stuck on the bigger fishes, that can
make they lose their ability to hunt, therefore, they will die. More than that, if the amount fishes
dying is huge, the predators of fishes such as sea birds will die as well, because they cannot find
food. So that, our actions can destroy biodiversity.

Secondly, the plastics can be ended up at our dinner table. The lowest grade of species in the food
chain are planktons, they eat the micro-plastic which disintegrated from plastic objects, there are 5
trillions pieces of plastic afloat in the ocean in 2016, and planktons are eaten by the small fishes. In
the food chain, the fishes are almost in the lowest grade, they can be eaten by other predators and
sea birds. Those fishes are also eaten by us, which means all the plastics are accumulated up to our
body, and we are the species who eat a lot of plastics in the food chain. Moreover, we cannot avoid
it because 2.6 billion people around the world depend on the ocean for their primary sources of
protein.

Conclusion
To make the assumption, the plastics are existing many potential dangers that they can destroy our
beautiful ocean, we must think about our action can harm the environment. If you are a selfish
person, you do not have to think about the environment, but you must think about yourself, you are
eating the trash that you have dumped into the sea. We should be aware of the dangers of plastics,
from that we can avoid doing something worse for the environment.
