Today I’m going to talk about Marine Debris
So first I’ll explain about the problem of marine debris
The problem of waste no longer a new thing for the earth, especially for the sea. In your opinion, which country
produces the most waste in the world?. Based on data presented by THE ECONOMIST INTELLEGENCY UNIT IN
2017, Indonesia is the second largest contributor to plastic waste in the world that is dumped into the sea. Plastic
waste in Indonesia reaches 64 million tons/years of which 3.2 million tons is plastic waste that dumped into the sea
and then I’ll explain about impact of plastic on the the ocean
The impact of plastic waste in the sea is aproblem that can distrupt the ecological, ecotoxicological& economic balance in the short&long term
The impact of plastic on the ocean :
1. distrupt the balance of nutrients in the ocean
The presence of microplastic make the nutrients in the ocean so unbalanced
2. endanger the safety of underwater animals
fauna in the ocean often mistake plastic for food
3. Damage for coral reef
as many as 89% of coral reefs that come into contact with plastic are prone sisease&even become severaly damaged
4. Reducing the plankton population
plastic wate ditrupt the phytoplankton population
5. Threatening in existence of seabirds
according to scientific articles 90% of seabirds stomach contain plastic waste
6. Harmful to hyman health
when marine animals eat plastic waste, human are also threatened bcs some of the food consumed comes from sea
7. bad impact on the economy
the economy will also be harmed especially for coastal communities and also the tourism sector
So how long does it take for plastic waste to decompose?
Plastic waste takes 20 until 1000 years to finally decompose. This is of course is very harmful to the environment . For that we must reduce the use of plastic in
our daily life
