 POLLUTION

 is an undesirable change in the physical and biological characteristics of air,


land and water. While materials that bring about such an undesirable change
are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural or can also be created by
human activities.

UNDER POLLUTION:
 Water Pollution
- it occurs when chemicals, waste or other particles causes a body of
water to become harmful to everybody.
 Air Pollution
- it occurs when gases, smoke, dust or odor get into the air and made it
dirty.
 Land Pollution
- it refers to the contamination of soil/ land surfaces with abnormal
concentrations of toxic substances like trash, debris and poisonous chemicals.

 WHY IS THIS CONSIDERED AS GLOBAL ISSUE?


 Pollution is considered as a global issue because it doesn't exist only in one
country but it also experience or happens around the globe.
 It is considered as a global issue because it is causing grave and irreparable
damage to the natural world and human society with about 40% of deaths
worldwide being caused by water, air and land pollution.
 Air Pollution for example, is considerable as global environmental risk to our
health and food security. It causes a drastic premature death worldwide and
destroys crops that can feed millions of people every year.

 HOW THIS ISSUE CAN BE ADDRESSED?


 Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
 Proper disposal of waste/garbage (Compost Pit).
 Reduce the use of pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers.
 Usage of organic products as they are eco-friendly and biodegradable.
 Avoid using plastic materials
 Try planting more and more trees.
 Do not throw waste chemicals, oils and medicines in the sink drain.
 Produce less trash.

 STRICT IMPLEMENTATION
 Republic Act No. 8749 of June 23, 1999 (Philippine Clean Air Act)
- is a comprehensive air quality management policy and program which aims
to achieve and maintain healthy air for all Filipinos.
- provides for a comprehensive air pollution control policy, as it outlines the
government’s measure to reduce air pollution by including environmental
protection activities into its development plans.

 Republic Act No. 9003 ( Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of


2000)
- in partnership with stakeholders, the law aims to adopt a systematic,
comprehensive and ecological solid waste management program that shall ensure
the protection of public health and environment. The law ensures proper
segregation, collection, storage, treatment and disposal of solid waste through the
formulation and adaption of best eco-waste products.

 Republic Act No. 9275 ( Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004)


- the law aims to protect the country’s water bodies from pollution, from
land-based sources (industries and commercial establishments, agriculture and
community/ household activities). It provides for comprehensive and integrated
strategy to prevent and minimize pollution through a multi-sectoral and
participatory approach involving all the stakeholders.

 Republic Act No. 3931 ( The National Water and Air Pollution Control
Commission)
- the act declares as national policy “to maintain reasonable standards to
purify for the waters and of this country with their utilization for domestic,
agricultural, industrial and other legitimate purposes.”

 HOW POLLUTION AFFECTS SCHOOL/ EDUCATION?


 Students exposure to pollution can cause them drastic effects especially to
their health, like diseases such as asthma, bronchial illnesses, skin diseases,
breathing disorders, etc. that can lead to academic failures, absences or even
failure to continue education.
