1.

Jean-Baptist De La Salle was born on April 30 1651 at Hotel de la Cloche, also known
as Hotel de La Salle or Maison Natale. He is the son of Louis De La Salle, a magistrate,
and Nicolle Moet de Brouillet, from the family of a Champagne maker old days ago. He
was influenced by her grandmother by reading stories about the life of the saints to him.
Also, his mother is religious, at a young age, St. De La Salle was taught by his mother
different kinds of prayers which influenced him to be a man of religion, a helper to the
needy, and a good teacher and saint.
After reading sources given to us, I think, Jean-Baptist De La Salle's parents and his
family gave the foundation of his career that guides him into his enlightenment. I also
see myself as him because my parents teach me and guide me with words of
righteousness.

2. St. Jean-Baptist De La Salle moves from one community to another to fulfill his dream.
He comes to different places to explore and help the needy and weak in France. In his
time during February 24, 1688, he arrived in Paris, created an Institute, a congregation
in from of schools where they devote themselves to education, vocation and touch the
hearts, particularly of poor children, also to teach them and to Inspire the Christian spirit.
It spread not only in France but in other parts of the globe where forms into universities
where we study now. Due to my reading, this kind of community that St. De La Salle
created gives me a thought that having helping other people and spreading the Christian
spirit need number of people with the capability to fulfill the mission that is given to us in
order to do the common good
3. From a very young age, St. Jean-Baptist De La Salle was exposed to the religion that he
was taught when he was a little boy. His grandmother taught him to say prayers, he also
joins him in kneeling, but most of his influence came from the church which made him
the saint of Teachers. He was a devoted boy where he learns and applies his learning in
his life, at the age of 16, he was a canon of the Cathedral of Reims. When he was 32
years old, he decided to withdraw from his place but he never stops spreading the word
of God. He dedicated his life as a religious person with a golden heart for the ones who
need, and for the people who need education. De La Salle also pointed that, “… not only
is God so good as to have created us, but God desires all of us to come to the
knowledge of the truth.”
4. In his years, the education of France was unequally distributed. There is a class struggle
in education at that time. The only wealthy class has the opportunity and the privilege to
be educated in a formal way. Worker class and lower class suffered discrimination from
the higher class which St. De La Salle rooted his inspiration to build schools from
scratch. He renounced himself from his position as a Canon, used his money to build
schools for the poor which made him create change. A promise to a friend to assist a
group of Sisters in their work with orphan girls brought him into teaching and spreading
the word of God at the same time.
He also created a forming a community that became known as the Brothers of the
Christian Schools, or the de La Salle Brothers which lead to St. De La Salle University
nowadays. His passion with the help of people who believe him influences him to
educate and spread the word of God.
5. De La Salle experience a time where Paris was balanced on being the best and the
worst society at that time. It is also the time of the Renaissance period that arrived at
France and religion. Also that time, religion give authority to elude the kings. He created
a society where they have a mission to fulfill where they educate the poor, teach them
how to live the way St. La Salle wanted to teach. His society influenced him to serve
more people with his brothers in order to fulfill his mission in life. The imbalance and
unfairness of life in Paris give him the motivation to push himself and live life in the
Lasallian way. It influences me to follow the way of the society of St. De La Salle. It gives
me an idea of how to give myself into the life where I dedicate my life to the common
good
