The Philippine Government S&T Agenda

The demand to develop a country's science and technology has long been
acknowledged as one of the pillars of contemporary socioeconomic progress. Governments
have been concerned about this issue since the post-World War II years. The problem of
dependence on science and technology, which is directly linked to the integrity of their political
sovereignty and economic self-reliance, is a major source of concern for third-world countries.
The Philippines' Department of Science and Technology is a government agency
responsible for overseeing and managing national technology development and acquisition,
conducting technological and scientific research, and raising public awareness about science
and technology. It aids in our understanding of nature and the world, as well as our ability to
live full lives through new and inventive methods. As a result, we must develop our scientific
and technological basis as Filipinos to compete in an integrated ASEAN.
