minutes. Get medical attention.
Immediately wash exposed skin with soap and water. Remove contaminated
Skin Contact : clothing and shoes. Clean shoes thoroughly before reuse. Wash contaminated
clothing before reuse. Get medical attention.
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If it is suspected that fumes are still present, the
rescuer should wear an appropriate mask or self-contained breathing apparatus.

SECTION 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Flammability : Extremely flammable liquid.

Auto-ignition temperature : 240°C (464°F)
Flash point : Closed cup: < -5 °C (23°F)
Explosion limits : Lower: 1.1% Upper: 5.9%
In a fire or if heated, a pressure increase will occur and the container may burst,
with the risk of subsequent explosion. The vapor/gas is heavier than air and will
Fire/explosion hazards : spread along the ground. Vapors may accumulate in low or confined areas or
travel a considerable distance to a source of ignition and flash back. Runoff to
sewer may create fire or explosion hazard.

Highly explosive in the presence of the following materials or conditions: open

Unusual fire/explosion
: flames, sparks and static discharge and heat. Eliminate all ignition sources. Hot
hazards
containers may explode.
Extinguishing Media
Suitable : Use dry chemical, CO2, water spray (fog) or foam.
Not suitable : Do not use water jet.
Promptly isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident
if there is a fire. No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without
Fire - fighting procedures :
suitable training. Move containers from fire area if this can be done without risk.
Use water spray to keep fire -exposed containers cool.

Combustion products may include the following:

Hazardous combustion Carbon Oxides (CO, CO2) (carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide)
:
products Sulfur Oxides (SO2, SO3 etc.)
Nitrogen Oxides (NO, NO2 etc.)

SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Evacuate nonessential personnel and remove or secure all ignition sources.

Consider wind direction; stay upwind and uphill, if possible. Evaluate the direction
of product travel, diking, sewers, etc. to contain spill areas. Chemical splash
goggles. Chemical-resistant protective suit. Boots. Chemical-resistant gloves. Self-
contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) should be used to avoid inhalation of the
Personal precautions :
product. Suggested protective clothing might not be adequate. Consult a specialist
before handling this product. CAUTION: The protection provided by air-purifying
respirators is limited. Use a positive pressure air-supplied respirator if there is any
potential for an uncontrolled release, if exposure levels are not known, or if
concentrations exceed the protection limits of air-purifying respirator.
Carefully contain and stop the source of the spill, if safe to do so. Protect bodies
of water by diking, absorbents, or absorbent boom, if possible. Do not flush down
Environmental precautions : sewer or drainage systems, unless system is designed and permitted to handle
such material. The use of firefighting foam may be useful in certain situations to
reduce vapors.

CAIRN INDIA | 3
Take up with sand or oil absorbing materials. Carefully shovel, scoop or sweep
up into a waste container for reclamation or disposal - caution, flammable
vapors may accumulate in closed containers. Response and clean-up crews
Methods for cleaning up : must be properly trained and must utilize proper protective equipment. Use
spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment. Dispose of via a licensed
waste disposal contractor. Contaminated absorbent material may pose the
same hazard as the spilled product.

SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handle as a combustible liquid. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.

Workers should wash hands and face before eating or drinking. Do not get in
eyes or on skin or clothing. Do not breathe vapor or mist. Do not ingest. Use only
with adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate respirator when ventilation is
inadequate. Do not enter storage areas and confined spaces unless adequately
Handling : ventilated. Store and use away from heat, sparks, open flame or any other ignition
source. Use explosion-proof electrical (ventilating, lighting and material handling)
equipment. Use non-sparking tools. Take precautionary measures against
electrostatic discharges. To avoid fire or explosion, dissipate static electricity
during transfer by grounding and bonding containers and equipment before
transferring material.
Use approved vented containers. Keep containers closed and clearly labeled.
Store in accordance with local regulations. Store in a segregated and approved
area. Store away from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away
Requirements for storage from incompatible materials. Eliminate all ignition sources. Separate from
:
areas and containers oxidizing materials. Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use.
Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to
prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabeled containers. Use appropriate
containment to avoid environmental contamination.
