Task 1.3
Based on the information provided in the original scenario, the supplied sample feasibility
studies, organisational guidelines (see files in SR1) and information sourced during Task 1.2,
revise and expand your Business Requirements to include the following information:

 A summary of the business requirements

 An analysis of the existing network (Server Infrastructure)

 An assessment of the extent to which virtualisation will be used

 Project definition including business problems, opportunities, scope, objectives and

budget

Document these business requirements in your Tropica Network Report under Business
Requirements using suitable sub-headings.

Make sure you include all your research information sources listed underneath as
References using the APA referencing style.

Summary of the business requirements:

Learners’ answers will vary and should include some of the following.

Overview of Tropica

This should be based on task 1.

Benefits that would be gained from server and virtualization upgrade?

Upgrading of their servers from Server 2012 would be highly beneficial as its support license has
already been extended to 9/10/2018 with extended support available until 10/10/2023 and
Microsoft does not foresee another extension. Microsoft services makes it easy to migrate data,
security, and configurations from Server 2012 legacy.

Tropica could reduce their server’s physical needs if they slowly migrated from their current
generic rack servers to blade server that would allow them to employ a smaller standard size
42RU rack 1869mm height x 600mm Width x 1070mm Depth throughout their IT Infrastructure.
In addition to the blade mounted servers, each rack includes redundant Uninterrupted Power
Supplies, space for cable management, patch panels and network switches where necessary.

Tropica’s existing server infrastructure:

Servers:

Their current servers are currently using Server 2012 and server 2019 and their desktops are
using Windows 10.

They consist of an Active Directory domain controller, mainserver, another member server,
server2012, and the third, winclientvm.

They are all objects in the domain Tropica.

Functionality of the servers:

MainServer hosts:

ADDS

dDNS

server2012 hosts:

IIS, website

MS-SQ database, Northwind

Recommendation of new infrastructure that would benefit Tropica, outlining physical server
infrastructure and inclusion of a new virtualized server.

All Servers should be upgraded from Server 2012 to Server 2019.

Virtualization should be implemented as this would give Tropica a huge advantage in the
current IT market. Add this with the upgraded (blade or rack) server running type 1
hypervisors they will see massive improvements in work that include both employees and
their quality of work.

Tropica will need to purchase Blade Servers and Blade Server Racks. Blade servers also
reduce power requirements and for companies like Tropica that cost of energy adds up very
quickly and some of the upgrade cost will save with this.

In order to fully implement vSphere across Tropica’s IT Infrastructure, I would recommend a

thorough audit be performed of all IT resources, from hardware and software to personnel.

Resource ID: TBS_19_004_Cl_AdvServer_MG_Pro_2of2 LEARNER NAME:
Some new resources that may be required are:

Hardware: Before moving to vSphere ensure all server and network hardware is under warranty.
Any equipment past end of life should be replaced leading up to the migration to ensure the data
centre is running at the highest level

Software: Tropica’s current network management and security software may not integrate with
VMware. Planning should be undertaken to reproduce Tropica’s current network management
system and security policies within VMware vSphere. Plus, new licenses that will be needed.

Personnel: Once implemented the staff will need to be trained in VMware vSphere. This can be
sourced externally or via online courses.

Backups: Before servers are migrated from Oracle Box to ESXi, several backups will need to be
made of these hosts. Dedicated hardware, such as several NAS devices will need to be purchased
to store these backups until the migration is successful. Performing short-term backups to a
public cloud provider such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure may also be an option

Guidelines may include the need to reduce business costs and new green policy to promote
green solutions. They must comply with Government and industry guidelines.

Other guidelines may include the daily backup.

Network Operating system should be Windows Server 2019

Server applications should be IIS, DHCP, MS SQL.

Additional software can be deployment software eg. Web Deploy, Data Migration Assistant

Preferred plan should include:

Backup data from old system

Install new hardware

Install software to new hardware

Migrate data to new system

Test new system

Part 2: Server & Virtual Network Design
In this part of the assessment you will research and design a network server to meet the
business requirements. This server will make use of virtualisation.

Scenario - Tropica’s current situation

You have been asked to examine the current setup of the Tropica’s servers to assist you in
designing and prototyping the new virtual servers. Currently Tropica has:

 An Active Directory domain controller called Mainserver

 Another member server named Server2012.

Currently Server2012 has:

 IIS web server installed with a website at the default location

 MS-SQL database server installed including a database called Northwind.

You will need to migrate Tropica’s data that is currently stored on the hard drive of
Server2012.

You will also need to include a Windows client machine, called Clientvm, as part of your
design and prototyping.

Mainserver, Server2012 and Clientvm are all objects in the domain tropica.tafe.

The budget for this project is $20,000.

Existing infrastructure:

Their current generic rack mounted servers are using a large amount of physical space, and
high levels of electricity both for each physical rack-mounted unit, operations and for cooling.
This is causing them a rapid increase cost of electricity, which is detrimental to their
organization guidelines that state they are to be proactive in their need to reduce business
costs whilst promoting the use of a sustainable green environment within their business’s
environment.

Servers:

Their current servers are currently using Server 2012 and server 2019 and their desktops are
using Windows 10.

was then acquired by Dell in 2015. As a result, VMware is now a subsidiary company of Dell EMC.
VMware offers both Type 1 and Type 2 hypervisor solutions. Their Type 1 solutions are based on
ESXi, a bare-metal hypervisor utilised in data center environments. VMware sells a complete

server virtualisation solution called vSphere which includes ESXi and vCenter management
software. VMware’s Type 2 hypervisor solutions include VMware workstation pro and VMware
workstation player.

Citrix
Citrix is a multinational software company that was founded in 1989. The company offers a
range of virtualisation services such as server, application and desktop virtualisation. Citrix is
regarded as a leader in desktop virtualisation and collaboration services. Recently, Citrix entered
a partnership with Google to provide their services to Google Cloud. Citrix’s Type 1 Hypervisor
and server virtualisation solution is Citrix Hypervisor, formerly known as XenServer. Currently,
Citrix does not offer Type 2 hypervisors as they are focusing on delivering enterprise virtualisation
solutions.

Vendor Recommendation
Based on the above research, I believe it is the best interests of Tropica is to start migrating
their server infrastructure to VMware vSphere whilst maintaining their current internal
servers. This migration will include both Tropica’s internal servers and servers holding client
data. Although vSphere costs significantly more when compared to Citrix Hypervisor, a price
difference of nearly $5,000 per CPU, there are several key points of difference in features
offered by VMware.

These include:

• VMotion Live Migration: Allows you to move a running virtual machine from one server to
another with zero downtime. Citrix mention “a slight disruption or downtime” when using
their live migration features.

Document title: Cl_AdvServer_MG_Pro_2of2 Page 29 of 75

Resource ID: TBS_19_004_Cl_AdvServer_MG_Pro_2of2 LEARNER NAME:
• VMware offers significantly higher configuration maximums, which translates in more
scalability, elasticity and efficiency for Tropica IT.

• VMware can handle 128 Virtual CPUs per VM compared to 32 for Citrix

• VMware can handle 768 logical CPUs per host and 1024 Virtual machines per host
compared to 288 and 1000 for Citrix

• Experience: VMware is a leader with a successful track record

• Security: VMware has a solid record in fixing security flaws and responding to incidents. In
contrast, Citrix has been recently breached and mishandled the incident.

• Support: VMware offers 24/7 production support for enterprise clients.

VMware’s robust features combined with high configuration maximums and industry leading
experience makes it a solid choice for Tropica.

Learners’ answers will vary and should include some of the following.
Current Physical Requirements

Servers have several requirements to ensure daily operation. Rack type, size, cabling needs,
power needs, layout and cooling are the main physical requirements of running Tropica IT’s
Infrastructure.

Tropica’s current physical IT Server requirements have grown significantly over the past several
years. The size of their large server room is required to accommodate the mounting of their
many generic individual bay rack-mounted servers.

Each of which requires its own power supply, requiring access to multiple power points.

Whilst more modern blade servers offer the benefit of a centralized management console and
that the integrated blade enclosure provides important power, cabling and infrastructure
efficiencies that reduce the size of the area into which they will stored.

When implement together with virtualization both technologies reduce infrastructure by

reclaiming data center and desktop space, improving management, while increasing data
and application visibility and high availability.

Document title: Cl_AdvServer_MG_Pro_2of2 Page 30 of 75

Resource ID: TBS_19_004_Cl_AdvServer_MG_Pro_2of2 LEARNER NAME:
According to business forecasts, their current physical layout will accommodate up to another 2
years of growth, after which Tropica IT will need to expand the physical size of their IT
Infrastructure by adding an additional location or expanding their current IT Infrastructure.

Current Cooling Requirements

Tropica IT employs the industry best practice of utilising hot aisle containment to cool the IT
Infrastructure. Hot aisle containment is summarised as enclosing “the hot aisle to collect the IT
equipment’s hot exhaust air, allowing the rest of the room to become a large cold-air supply
plenum. By containing the hot aisle, the hot and cold air streams are separated.”
(Niemann, Brown, & Avelar, 2011)

Advantage/Disadvantage

Learners could use a table for the advantages/disadvantages, which can include:

Rack mount Adv: Discrete servers, multiple redundancies available for parts e.g. power supplies
etc. Cheaper cost for individual server, failure doesn’t cascade

Rack mount disadvantage: takes larger space, requires more power management, more
expensive over all as more server required

Blade Advantage: Smaller footprint, power management in place, more servers per m2,

Blade Disadvantage: heat dissipation can be an issue, less redundant parts, potential for failure
across multiple servers if effecting housing

Deployment Plan

This is the steps that will be taken.

Sample plan below:

The agreed steps will be:

1. Create three new virtual machines, one from each of the three virtual hard drives
named mainservervm, server12vm and winclientvm.

2. Start the first two virtual machines, and the third as required.

3. Confirm they consist of an Active Directory domain controller called mainserver,

another member server named server2012, and third called winclient.

4. Confirm that they are all objects in the Tropica domain.

5. Server2012 has IIS and MS-SQL installed. IIS has a website at the default location and
MS-SQL has a database called Northwind installed

6. Create a new virtual machine named DC2svr19vm using an appropriate amount of

RAM, and CPUs, with two dynamic virtual hard drives, each of 120 GB. Use this new
virtual machine to install a new Windows datacenter server with a GUI 2019 from an
ISO file.

7. This computer is to be called DC2svr19XX. This should be added to the Tropica

domain as a member server.

8. You are to create a server operator in the domain Tropica, called ContractorXX.

Resource ID: TBS_19_004_Cl_AdvServer_MG_Pro_2of2 LEARNER NAME:
9. Logout as Administrator and login as ContractorXX. Bearing in mind the principle of
least privilege, all further work is to be completed as the user ContractorXX as is
possible.

10. After starting these machines, ensure they are all functioning correctly, are in the
same network and can communicate with each other. If any errors are detected, they
should be diagnosed using appropriate troubleshooting tools and corrected as
required.

11. Create a snapshot for each of these machines so that you can roll back to the current
settings.

12. Using server12, create a backup of the data in webserver and the database called
Northwind as well a backup of its system state on the mainserver

13. A connection to the Internet should be added to this new server

14. Windows updates should be set to automatic.

15. Windows Update should be configured to update Server 2019, IIS and MSSQL
updates.

16. Download and install Microsoft MS-SQL express2017 and the latest version of the
management studio.

17. Microsoft IIS should be installed.

18. The Northwind database should be migrated from Server2012, as well as the data for
the webserver, using appropriate tools

19. Server2012 should be disabled (but not deleted) in Active Directory.

20. Server2012 should be shut down. A backup of this virtual server is to be stored on
your desktop.

21. After adding the ADDS role, promote DC2svr19 server to be an additional domain
controller.

22. Configure the IIS proxy/rewrite

23. Also add the feature that enables the mail feature.

24. Configure the SMTP Smart Host

25. Add a DHCP server to DC2sver19, with mainserver as the DNS server and sufficient IP
addresses for a network with 200 DHCP clients.

Task 3.2
Scenario
Although Teratech is designing and installing the new server and virtual network, ultimately
it will be Tropica support staff who will be responsible for ongoing maintenance of the
network. This may include adjusting configuration settings on the server, adjusting
configuration settings the virtual network environment, or rebuilding the server should there
be a hardware failure.

With this in mind you have been asked by Paula Lee, Manager of the Infrastructure Division
and your manager, to identify and analyse the training requirements for the Tropica support
staff.

Based on your Server Design, Virtual Network Design and the business requirements,
analyse and document the education and training requirements for the Tropica network
support staff. In the training requirements you need to:

1. Describe each of the areas in which Tropica network support staff require training

2. Ensure that you include training relating to WH&S as per the enterprise workplace
health and safety (WH&S) processes and procedures contained in the IT WH&S
Compliance checklist (IT_WH&S_Compliance_checklist.pdf). This includes ensuring
that all worker’s obligations are met as per the current NSW work health and safety

Electrical

The risk of death or injury from electricity is strongly linked to where and how it is used

For example, the risks are generally higher if it is used:

Electrical equipment is especially vulnerable to damage, such as exposed wires or when it is

placed in a damp environment which can cause it to become wet and be vulnerable and an
electrical fault can develop.

Extension leads, cables particularly those connected to equipment that is frequently moved,
can suffer similar problems.

Manual Handling

A Manual handing task refers to a task that requires a person to lift, lower, push, pull, carry
or otherwise move, hold or restrain any person, animal or thing involving factors that stress
the body.

If these are allowed to be done in a work environment without occupational health concerns,
they can become hazardous to the individual.

Recommendation:

Perform an annual manual handling risk assessment or manual tasks audit. The purpose of

a manual handling risk assessment is to identify any physical or environment hazards which
put workers at a greater risk of sustaining a musculoskeletal or manual handling injury.
Educate workers against these types of injuries and look for preventative ways to reduce any
injuries.

Task 3.5
Scenario
After meeting with the client, Teratech wants you to prepare a WH&S (Work, Health and
Safety) statement for the client, Tropica, before you commence the installation of the
servers.

This WH&S Statement will give Tropica an overview of the WH&S risks, associated with the
installation of the server, and how these risks will be mitigated.

Prepare a WH&S Statement for the client Tropica including the following:

1) An overview of any potential risks associated with the following WH&S areas:

a. Electrical safety

b. Manual handling of equipment

c. Personal safety.

2) Recommendations on site specific processes and procedures for how Tropica staff
might minimise or eliminate any of these hazards, in advance of your installation.

Ensure that your risk assessment is based on current Federal and State laws and regulations.

Check that your WH&S statement is in line with site specific safety requirements and
enterprise workplace health and safety (WH&S) processes and procedures contained in the
IT WH&S Compliance checklist (IT_WH&S_Compliance_checklist.pdf) supplied to you by
Teratech. This includes ensuring that all worker’s obligations are met as per the current NSW
work health and safety legislation.

Document this WH&S Statement in your Tropica Network Report under WH&S Statement
using suitable sub-headings.

Make sure you include all your research information sources listed underneath as
References using the APA referencing style.

Electrical

The risk of death or injury from electricity is strongly linked to where and how it is used

For example, the risks are generally higher if it is used:
