Business Domain refers to the type and overall nature of the business (e.g. Healthcare, Aviation,
Finance, Military, Retail, etc). IT identifies what the business systems does more than how the
business systems work.
The business domain forms a basis for requirements and acceptance criteria for the system.

c) Explain why you have chosen these questions. (Approx. 50-75 words)
Question 1.2
a) Explain the role of stakeholders in the information gathering process.
(Approx. 75-100 words)
Stakeholders provide the actual information required for the project. They are the sources of
current information about how the business is currently working.
b) When gathering information how much involvement should there be with the
stakeholders? Explain your answer. (Approx. 100-150 words)
Stakeholders for any business can range from customer, to government, professional bodies
(external stakeholders) to business units within the business (internal stakeholders). Degree of
involvement of the stakeholders is directly dependent on their role. Difference in the type of
stakeholder will essentially mean differing requirements from other stakeholders. Consider a
website development project. Embedded payment options is going to be a requirement for the
customer and finance department of the business. It is not a Human Resources department
requirement. HR may have an embedded staff induction kit as a requirement, which is not a
requirement for finance department or the customer. It is important to clearly understand these
different requirements of the stakeholders. A wide range of problems and a large number of
projects failing, can be avoided or reduced by having a better understanding of the varying
requirements of different stakeholders.
