Assessment Task 2 - Requirements

Students are required to complete a portfolio of work that includes the case study listed below.

 Students will find these items as part of this assessment task as an appendix to this document or will
be issued these items by their trainer at times throughout the unit of competency.
 All areas are to be assessed by trainers.
 Students are to receive feedback on all areas.
 All areas must be completed as part of the portfolio to a satisfactory standard.
 Students are to work on all areas individually (unless otherwise instructed)

Portfolio tasks are to be completed and submitted online and include:

Part 1 – Disconnect a PC

Rose Michaels has called you. She is the Medical Receptionist from the IVET SuperClinic.

She has asked you to come in to perform some routine maintenance and look after the computer hardware
for the staff and Doctors.

You go to the IVET SuperClinic.

Disconnect Rose’s PC (the PC that is sitting in front of you) from the internet by unplugging the network
cable from its network card, or disabling the PC’s WiFi access.

Explain the process you would follow to set this PC up to access the Internet and workplace server.

You will be observed by your trainer throughout this process.

Part 2 – Create a maintenance schedule

There are a number of computers that are used at the IVET SuperClinic on a daily basis.

Create a maintenance schedule for the computers.

Use the Internet to find an example of a schedule that you can use, and have a look at the one provided.
Use a template that you design.

You will then be required to complete the schedule for this workplace on one or more computers, and upload
the filled in template as evidence of completion of Part 2 of this Assessment Task.

Your assessor will observe you, and will give feedback on the completion of this task.

Part 3 – Locate a manufacturers schedule

Locate the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions on the Internet for the printer used at the Clinic (a
FujiXerox ApeosPort-IV C3375).

Once you have located this, upload this document as evidence of your ability to find and locate maintenance
instructions.

Part 4 – Locate a manufacturers storage requirement

The toner cartridges, waste toner cartridge and fuser cartridges for the printer at the IVET SuperClinic are
currently stored next to the printer. They often fall over and have become a real trip hazard for people using
the photocopier or walking past it. Search the Internet to find out what the manufacturer’s storage
requirements are for the cartridges.

Once you have located this, upload the document to your portal as evidence of your ability to find and locate
this hardware schedule, and completion of Part 4 of Assessment Task 2.

Part 5 – User Manual

You are required to create a User Manual for each person’s PC, focusing on the care of the equipment.

The User Manual should contain information on safe work practices, covering legal requirements, health and
safety standards, and manufacturer’s requirements for the installation, maintenance and daily use of the
hardware.

The manual should include any environmental constraints and considerations, how to dispose of used
consumables such as spent toner cartridges, system protection, and precautions when moving or storing
equipment and consumables.

You should include a maintenance section, showing the maintenance schedules and diagnostic procedures.
A summary of the manufacturer’s warranty should also be included.

Finally, include a statement on how the equipment meets business requirements, including quality standards
for use in the IVET SuperClinic.

Once you have completed the User Manual, upload it to your portal as evidence of completion of Part 5 of
Assessment Task 2.
