EPITHELIAL TISSUE

EPITHELIAL TISSUE
− If asked what the fundamental type of tissue is the
answer should be EPITHELIAL TISSUE

SIMPLE SQUAMOUS EPITHELIUM

Kidney: convoluted tubules

− The one pointed is the epithelial tissue.

SIMPLE COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM

− This is a cross section of a blood vessel.

− It contains mostly our smooth muscles.

Ileum

Kidney: Renal Corpuscles

− The one pointed is the parietal layer.

SIMPLE CUBOIDAL EPITHELIUM

Gallbladder

Thyroid Gland
− The one on the orange circle is the Thyroid follicle.
− The one pointed is the follicular cells.
− The one on the blue circle is the colloid.

LESSON 1: EPITHELIAL TISSUE

PSEUDOSTRATIFIED COLUMNAR CILIATED

EPITHELIUM

STRATIFIED SQUAMOUS NONKERATINIZED

Upper Respiratory Tract: trachea EPITHELIUM
− All the cells are connected to their basement
membrane, but their nuclei are at the different levels.
− The cells cannot be seen up until the surface.
− Cilia: small slender hair -like structure.

PSEUDOSTRATIFIED COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM

WITH STEREOCILIA

Vagina
− The cells here is not dead.

Epididymis
− Stereocilia: much longer and have some distal
branch

STRATIFIED SQUAMOUS KERATINIZED

EPITHELIUM

Lower Anal canal

− The one pointed is the epithelia.

TRANSITIONAL

Skin: epidermis

High power objective view: ureter

HUMAN HISTOLOGY | SORIANO, 2021 2

LESSON 1: EPITHELIAL TISSUE

Low power objective view: ureter

− Transitional cells are characterized by superficial
large domelike cells called the Umbrella cells.
− It is seen primarily in the ureter, urinary bladder,
and some other type of urethra that’s why it
called uroepithelium.
