a) RESEARCH DIRECTION AND FOCUS

OBJECTIVES

Based on research paper 1 of the study is to determine the effect of the corona
virus on China's tourism industry that has been influence all over the world.
Moreover, they also analyse the community in China that had impacted their
normal lifes from the harmful disease of Covid-19. Furthermore, it is to
measure the impact due to this pandemic Covid-19 of some factors such as the
China airline industry, business relationship with the international or other
companies, hotel industry, restaurants, transportation industry and also the
cruise operations.

Meanwhile, research paper 2 examine the overall impact of the disease


pandemic Covid-19 that focus in China’s hotel industry. Moreover, the paper
also investigate the Covid-19 management framework with the reference of
China’s hotel industry. They explore on the framework addresses phases,
principles, and strategies of the industry’s anti-pandemic journey. Furthermore,
this research want to identify the impact of Covid-19 to the future with four
major aspects of China’s hotel industry which is the product design and
investment preference, digital and intelligent transformation, multi-business and
multi-channels, and lastly the market reshuffle.

c) RESEARCH GAP (ISSUES AND PROBLEM)

In Paper 1, the author has stated the data collection which is the literature
analysis from many pieces of literature. As I can see there are lack of
information about the current study. There also have a limitation in
recommendation for the effect of Covid-19 in the Tourism Industry in China.

However in Paper 2, there are some limitation which is there are lack of
empirical exploration and the unpredictability of the Pandemic. They also
should use more accurate prediction models and methods. Future research will
look into the effects of technology adoption on customer experience,
engagement, satisfaction, loyalty, and the performance of hotel brands and
properties in the post-pandemic period. It would also be useful to look into the
advantages of live streaming marketing. The future research can also analyse
the post pandemic hotel franchising, merging, and acquisition strategies.

d) METHODOLOGY

There are some methods used by the researcher in Paper 1. Firstly, they use
secondary research method such as academic journal articles, government
documents, thesis paper, several of literature, news articles, web page and so on.
The first step for the secondary research is developing a research question, for
example "what are the impact of emerging coronavirus in tourism industry in
China". The next step is to detect the secondary data set. The third step is to
analyse the secondary data collection, and the fourth step is to prepare and
evaluate the secondary data. For the literature, they implemented some
techniques and strategies by the researcher such as and Boolean Operators
techniques and the keyword in the literature search. Lastly, the other methods is
they reviewed some statistical data to support this research.

Meanwhile, the methods used in Paper 2 are they based on statistic which is
they measure the accupancy of China’s hotel industry with different scales.
Moreover, they also use secondary sources which is review of the disaster
management literature. Based on the literature analysis, they investigate hotel
stakeholder’s attitude, obstaclesa and consequences.

e) RESEARCH FINDINGS

In Paper 1, the research findings from this research paper are they
acknowledging people the information about the impact of Covid-19 in the
tourism industry in China. Due to this global impact, a lot of tourism activities
has been cancelled for example, all flights from other countries to China so that
the virus is not spreading widely. Hence, this also make outside people fear to
enter China or mix with Chinese population. Other than that, travel agencies are
force to stop the operations to produce tourism packages domestically and
internationally. Not only that, the cruise line from internationals which is
Norwegian and Royal Caribbean were suspended sailing to China. Moreover,
the postpone of the trade and travel relationship with other countries also giving
the bad impact to the economy and financial weak to China.

However in Paper 2, the research findings outline the overall impact of Covid-
19 on the stakeholders in China’s hotel industry. By this impact, it eventually
effected hotel employees job and income. Due to the shortage of money and
employees, the hotel renovation projects have been postponed and slowing the
growth of domestic hotel chains. All the travel plans and hotel bookings need to
declined.

f) RESEARCH IMPLICATION

Based on Paper 1 in this study, I can conclude that the effect of the emergence
of Covid-19 has give a lot of negative impacts towards tourism industry in
China which is to the economy, community, social life, small and big
entrepreneur company. This research has taught us that the impact of this
harmful virus will continue for a longer time period and the community will
give more concern in recent times on how to survive in this Pandemic era. As
the Chinese economy is heavily dependent on tourism and each year a large
number of international tourists visit China's most popular tourist destinations
and give a lot of profits to the country. But unfortunately, Covid-19 are not stop
for its spreading.

Meanwhile in Paper 2, this research examine the impact on stakeholders in


China’s hotel industry during the Pandemic Covid-19. However, they have
proposed a Covid-19 management framework and have 6 phases in anti-
pandemic strategies. Firstly is leadership and communication for creating,
recording and communicating disaster management strategy. Next is human
resource as anti-pandemic hotels should ensure the physical and psychological
well-being, position and income of the front line staff. It is to ensure the safety
of employees, customers and property. The third phase is service provision such
as providing contactless service and refunding cancellations or re-schedule hotel
booking. Next is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Some are volunteering
being a medical crew dormitory. Moreover the next phase is finance. They
encouraging mutual support with stakeholders to reduce the management and
franchise fee. Lastly is reviewing the development of disaster management
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
