EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of industrial attachment creates the need for any discerning student to create a clear
picture of what has been done in the form of a report. Field attachment is a Field of practical
training experience that prepares trainee for the tasks that are expected to perform on completion of
their training. This report contains information which I gathered during my industrial training in
TNS for a period of 3 months .As a student my involvement in this attachment was to make sure I
acquire new knowledge and practical skills, improving my confidence in problem solving and to
utilize the opportunity to relate with different category of people likely to meet in real life
situations. This report gives all the activities I undertook in TNS ,the experience I gained,the
practical skills acquired and the personal input to the organization. My report gives a brief
introduction about TNS and work of different departments. The information am giving in this report
reflects all the achievement I acquired according to my objectives set here in.This report shows the
benefits, success, challenges encountered and how I was able to overcome them. It also shows my
recommendation and the conclusions of my training.

PREREFACE
The purpose of this report is to explain what I did and learned during my internship period with
TNS.The report is also a requirements for the partial fulfillment of the requirement for the award in
Degree in ECON/MATH. The report focuses primarily on the assignment, working environment,
success and shortcomings that I encountered when handling various tasks assigned by the
supervisor. Because the various parts of the report reflects the shortcomings, success, observations
and comments I would be imperative that the recommendations are also given. Therefore the report
gives a number of comments and recommendation on the internship program. It is hoped that this
report would serve as a stepping stone towards the improvement of the attachment programmers
and to serve as a testimonialo of practicals done to those who would wish to go for attachment.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

OBJECTIVES OF THE FIELD ATTACHMENT

The main objectives for the attachment exercise were as follows;
1. To access the interests in the occupation am undertaking.
2. To be acquainted with the expectations of working in a highly competitive environment.
3. To get an opportunity to apply the principles and techniques, theoretical learned into real life
problem solving situations.
4. To enable and strengthen linkages between KABARAK UNIVERSITY and various organizations
all over the country.
5. Enhance students awareness of public service obligations.

DESCRIPTION OF LOCATION OF THE ORGANIZATION

Trans Nation Sacco is located in Tharaka Nithi County in Chuka town along Nairobi Meru highway.
The county is within Mt.Kenya region with a very conducive climate to favour farming activities.
Therefore its residence do both farming and livestock keeping activities. Due to heavy rains the area
experiences, it has made the place to have a large population of about 6 millions.

HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION

Trans Nation Sacco Ltd(TNS)formerly (Tharaka Nithi Teachers Sacco (TNT) was founded on 28th
June 1993 under registration number C/S 6826.TNT Sacco came after split of Meru Teachers Sacco
Society Limited whose area of operation was the larger Meru District. The Sacco moved to their
own premises in Chuka in the year 2002 with branches currently at
Marimanti,Chogoria,Maua,Isiolo,Kathwana and Meru. Further, the Sacco has two satellite offices at
Gatunga and Mukothima in Tharaka Sub county. Its worthy nothing that TN SACCO developed the
acronym FOSA(Front Office Sacco Activities) back in 1997 which is currently used by all deposit
taking SACCOs in Kenya.
Since inception, TN Sacco has grown to become one of the best SACCOs with asset base of over
kes 2.72 billion as at September 2016,a membership of over 9600 in BOSA and over 24000
accounts in FOSA. The Sacco is SASRA compliant deposit taking Sacco under license no 000035.
In its strategic plan (2016_2021),the Sacco intends to grow its asset base to 4 billions where 3.6
billions will comprise of loans to members, grow its membership to over 16000 and FOSA accounts
to 29000.

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission statement that will guide the Sacco is:"To empower members through mobilization of
savings, timely provision of affordable and diversified financial services for maximum returns "

VISION STATEMENT
Trans Nation Sacco has realigned its vision statement to the strategic reactions as;" To be a Sacco of
choice in provision of quality financial services "
MAIN PROGRAMS OF THE ORGANIZATION
The main services offered by Trans Nation Sacco are as follows;
1.Mobilization of savings from customers
2.Provision of affordable and diversified financial services for maximum returns.

 MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENTS
AUDITING DEPARTMENT>This section is responsible for maintaining the accounting and
financial management services. I.e preparation of annual budgets and receipts of revenue from
external and internal sources.
ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT>This department is responsible for coordinating the
development and welfare in the institution. It also offer administration support to the Sacco.
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY ( ICT)>To lender
computer_based and telephone services in an efficient and cost effective manner.
MARKETING DEPARTMENT>It help to manage the reputation of the institution and cultivate
favourable relations for organization and its products and services.
SECURITY DEPARTMENT>Provides the safety of all staffs ,visitors and all the facilities within
the institution.
FOSA DEPARTMENT>Providing credit and savings as a financial services to the customers.
CUSTOMERCARE DEPARTMENT>Ensures there is a clear flow of the services in the
institution by providing guidance services to the customers.
BOSA DEPARTMENT>Allocating and approving different types of loans to their clients and
offering backbone support to the Sacco all the time.

2.0 PROJECT BACKGROUND
2.1 Period of attachment
The field attachment which lasted for a period of thirteen weeks started on 2nd Jan and ended on
28th March of the year 2016.This period was characterised by executive duties both in the field for
example marketing the Sacco and office functions. Being a busy Sacco I went to work up to
Saturday.
2.2 Objectives
The main objectives of the attachment exercise were as follows;
1.To access the interests in the occupation am undertaking.

3.To get an opportunity to apply the principles and techniques theoretically learned into real life
problem solving situations.
4.To enable and strengthen linkages between KABARAK UNIVERSITY and various organizations

2.3 Key responsibilities
Since I joined TNS I was engaged in covering different functions and submitting outcomes to my
internal supervisor for subsequent submission to the head office for publishing. Some of the
responsibility I was assigned includes;
