generations of Ukrainians?
The Holodomor of 1932-1933 covered the period from April 1932 to November
1933. Over the past 17 months, more than 7 million people and 3 million
Ukrainians were killed in Ukraine outside Ukraine, in regions historically
inhabited by Ukrainians: Kuban, North Caucasus , The Lower Volga region and
Kazakhstan. The peak of the Holodomor came in the spring of 1933. In Ukraine,
about 17 people died of hunger every minute, 1,400 - every hour, more than 30
thousand - every day. The question of the number of human losses of Ukraine from
the Holodomor still remains open.
The actual death toll was kept quiet, as evidenced by a government order not to
register the deaths of children under one year of age. Ukrainians between the ages
of 6 months and 17 years accounted for about half of all Holodomor victims. In
this regard, the average life expectancy of Ukrainians in 1933 was 7 years for men
and 11 years for women. In the entire history of mankind, such indicators have not
been recorded anywhere.
The most perfect statistics are not able to convey the depth and scale of the socio-
economic, political and moral-psychological consequences of the Holodomor, the
terrible arbitrariness of the authorities and the mass cases of the shameful
phenomenon of cannibalism. The famine, which engulfed administrative districts
with a population of more than 40 million people and lasted for almost two years,
is not a natural phenomenon, but a man-made one.
