Book: Rainforest
Author: John Lockyer

What is a Rainforest?
A rainforest is an area of tall, mostly evergreen trees and a high amount of rainfall. Rainforest are extremely old
and they have been on Earth for millions of years. A rainforest is full of different species of plants, trees, flowers
and animals. Most rainforest is in tropical countries are wet and warm all years and rain there on most days.
Sometime they are called Jungles. There are 4 layers of rainforest, they are emergent, canopy, understory and forest
floor.

Canopy;
Trees in rainforest can be as high as a flat. The top of the rainforest makes a canopy like a roof. Many birds like
scarlet macaw live in the cano

py of the forest and they build nest in the branches. Monkeys swing from branches to vines high in the canopy and
like to eat fruit and nuts
Forest floor;
The canopy makes the floor of the rainforest very dark. Most animals, plants and flowers live in the forest floor
including snails, spider and other insects live there. Tree frogs hop along the branches and bright butterflies live
there, and Bats fly quietly at night too. Snakes are hard to see as they slide along rainforest tress. The biggest
hunters on the forest floor are hungry tigers and jaguars. Jaguars can climb, and like to hunt at night.

Native People;
Some people live in the rainforest, their homes are huts, and they use canoes to travel on the rivers. They catch fish
and hunt animals. Children in rainforest do not go to school but they have learnt everything about life in the
rainforest.

This book is really educational and suitable for kids. My favorite animal is the chameleon. This book shows us a lot
of animals and tell us how they lives. However, this book is called Rainforest and it lacks major facts about it. I give
this book a 4/10 rating.
