Note: Any differences in the client specific requirements from the above requirements
should be addressed in an attachment to this document.

3.7 Any additional requirements or client associated documents of this procedure

apply only to projects being performed for that client after issuing the new
edition for those projects.

4.0 DEFINITIONS
4.1 NDT: Non Destructive Testing.

4.2 Radioactive Isotope: Any material emitting ionizing radiation from its nucleus
by decay.
4.3 Ionization : the process by which a neutral atom or molecule acquires a
positive or negative charge (production of ions)
4.4 Sealed Source: Any radioactive material encased in a capsule designed to
prevent the leakage or escape of any radioactive substance.

4.5 X-ray Equipment: Any electrical device which generates x-ray radiation used
for industrial Radiography.

4.6 Radiography: One of the NDT methods for testing materials by utilizing a
radioactive isotope or x-ray generating equipment.

4.7 Radiographer: Any individual who performs industrial radiography using

isotopes or x-ray generating equipment.

4.8 Isotope Projector or Radiographic exposure device: (also called a

camera, or a projector) means any instrument containing a sealed source
fastened or contained therein, in which the sealed source or shielding thereof
may be moved, or otherwise changed, from a shielded to unshielded position
for the purposes of making a radiographic exposure.
4.9 Dose - A general form denoting the quantity of radiation or
energy absorbed. For special purpose it must be
appropriately qualified. If unqualified, it refers to absorbed
dose.

4.10 Dose Rate - Absorbed dose delivered per unit time

4.11 Dosimeter - Instrument to detect and measure accumulated radiation

exposure.

4.12 Transport Index - The transport index is the maximum radiation intensity in
mR/hr measured at one meter from the surface of the
package. It is expressed without units.

4.13 Half-life - The time interval in which the number of radioactive nuclei
decreases by half
