AncestryDNA is one of the most popular DNA testing companies. The company offers a quick and
easy process to help customers discover their family history by uploading a tree into their online family
trees.

First, go to Ancestry.com and log in to your account or create an account if you don't have one. Here
is what you can do next:

Link your DNA to your existing Ancestry tree

Once you log in, you can see the "Build a Family Tree" sign, then click here.

Or you can go to the Setting gear and find your DNA Results Summary and click "Link to Tree".

If you have more than one link, select the DNA test among the several results that you would like to
link to.

There is the confirmation message and then make sure you choose the right one that you wish to be
linked.

Click the green button marked "Connect My Ancestry Tree" and then click "Choose File" to select a
file from your computer. This process may take a few minutes. Then, you'll see your family tree as it
appears on the Ancestry website. Click the green box marked "Select this person to add this tree to
my DNA kit." Next, follow these steps:

Verify your DNA match relationship

When the upload process is complete, you'll see a message indicating that your DNA test has been
linked with your tree. Then, you'll be asked to verify the genetic match relationships (if any) between
yourself and the people in your family tree. You'll also note that you've now had access to all of the
information in your family tree and can edit it.

If you don't have a family tree yet

you can create one in your personal settings. You can either create a new tree by adding persons or
upload a GEDCOM file right away as shown here.

After you create this Ancestry tree, follow the above instructions to link this tree to your DNA profile.

Upload the GEDCOM file

Ancestry is currently only able to import GEDCOM files from Legacy Family Tree and RootsMagic.
When the tree is exported from the genealogy program, save it as a . GED file, which is just text in
a .zip format.

unzip up files into a folder on the desktop called "My Family Tree"

double click to open the .GED files (this might take several minutes). Note that there are two kinds of
GEDCOM files, one for genealogy software and one for AncestryDNA.
Once you have completed the process, you should select the Create & Manage Trees item from the
TREES menu at the top of your Ancestry. Choose to upload a GEDCOM file and follow the prompts to
select the file from your computer.

You're now ready to work at finding your genetic matches!

The process is very simple, easy, and quick. You can link your DNA to your existing Ancestry tree or
just upload a GEDCOM file to create a new family tree or add persons into an existing one. The
results can tell you that you are related to your cousin, but you should check the DNA match data to
see who is related to who. Take a look at your test results. You might see not at all what you would
expect...but who knows? I would like to suggest you try it.
