AYURVEDIC HEALING VILLAGE “EMPOWERING THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED”

ENABLE DIFFERENTLY ABLE

“Differently abled” means a person suffering from a disability either
physical or mental. Disability in people can cause by birth defect,
accidents or sudden health problems. Physical disability is very
unpredictable and can occur to anyone or at anytime due to accidents,
some health problems or by side effects of some medicines, etc.
Disability will not only put pressure in the physical health of the person
but also put mental pressure on them. They are thought as nuisance or
burden by
their
friends,
relatives as well as their family due to
which they are treated unfairly.

Ayurvedic Center is a system of traditional medicine. Ayurvedic practitioners approach diagnosis by

using the five senses. For example, hearing is used to observe the condition of breathing and speech.
Ayurveda tends to stress attaining vitality by building a healthy metabolic system and maintaining
good digestion and excretion. Ayurveda also focuses on exercise, yoga, acupuncture, herbal
medicine, massage therapy and dietary changes and meditation. Nepal is very rich in medicinal plants
and with the increase use of the ayurvedic medicine but the local manufacturing units of Ayurvedic
drugs in Nepal fulfill only 15% of the internal demand while the remaining 85% is imported from India.
So, if a ayurvedic center is constructed then it can also help in economy of our country as we have to
import less ayurvedic products from other countries and it can also provide a employment opportunity
to the people in need.

Reasons for doing this project:

As in my locality, most of the differently abled people are living in a very poor living condition with
having only minor jobs like making incense sticks, dolls, etc. and are staying in very shabby place. No
stability in their job. And the people who were capable and had to be a differently abled due to
accidents or other various diseases can become demotivated and lose interest as they can feel that they
lost everything. Differently abled are not incapable but they just don’t get the opportunity or support to
do the things that they want. So, with proper training and guidance, they can work together to complete
each other. Employment opportunity (One 2014-2015 study found that persons with disabilities were
more likely to have a lower income per month (0-4999 Nepalese rupees) than persons without
disabilities (60.5% compared to 44.2%). On average, 13.1% of households with a person with disabilities
experienced job loss, compared to 11.3% of households without a person with disabilities. And even if
they get jobs to do, there are various hindrance that can stop them from doing the job like the
unavailability of ramp, no proper bathroom for differently abled, disrespectful attitude towards them
etc.

Kotdada is the trading route for most of the goods as well as the medicinal herbs. Specially, Bhotes of
that area travel a lot to sell the medicinal herbs that they had collected. So, if ayurvedic centre is built in
that area the Bhotes do not have to travel much and can easily bring the herbs in the centre without
travelling much which will provide a variety of works which can be performed by the differently abled
people with their capabilities. As our Nepal is very rich in medicinal plants and with the increase use of
the ayurvedic medicine, this project can help provide employment opportunity to the differently abled
people as well as the people or traders of the medicine of that locality with healthy environment to
work on.

Examples where differently abled people are employed:

• KFC India outlets has around 70% of the staffs with hearing and speech impaired.

• A mid-scale hotel “Lemon Tree Hotel” chain with 40 hotels in 24 cities has about 22% of its
staffs having Autism and speech and hearing impairment.

• “Poster and Gamble”, a multinational company responsible for making Crest toothpaste,
Folger's coffee and much more has over 40 percent of the people employed have
developmental or physical disabilities in one of their manufacturing plants.

• “Southstar Drug”, a drug stores in the Philippines has an excellent track record when it comes to
hiring people with disabilities.

• IBM engineered braille typewriters and similar equipment that offered improved
communication devices for disabled individuals.

• “Landmark Group”, a Dubai based retailing, hospitality and healthcare chain has over 500
differently abled people in folding and stacking while 70 works as Cashiers having speech and

“Their eye for detail and integrity are higher. Customers are empathetic when they know an employee is

CONCLUSION
So, with proper training, guidance, love and respect, help in developing confidence in all people which
helps them to perform any works with perfection. As, Ayurvedic center requires various types of works
that needs to be performed so differently abled people can perform any works according to their
capabilities. With the engagement of the differently abled people can help the promotion of the
Ayurvedic centre too. This Ayurvedic centre not only helps in empowering the differently abled people
or the peddlers who bring in the herbs but also the people who come to be treated here. This project
aims to uplift the living condition as well as confidence of the differently abled people that they are also
a part of the community which helps in healing others people and also helps in promotion of our
Ayurvedic products.
