1. How do social and human issues influence science?

From my standpoint, I can say that social and human issues has a strong
influence on the future of science. These issues influence science in the sense that
the application of scientific knowledge helps to satisfy several basic human needs
and wants or special interests and to improve living standards. The attitude of the
people decides where science goes.
Any science undertaking is for the good of society and is a direct result of a
situation society is enduring. Finding a cure for cancer or the common cold,
exploration in space, global warming, and any aspect of society's problems are
discovered and studied by scientists to benefit society, funded by society, and
embraced by society for the its survival. Clearly, there will be no science and frankly
speaking, scientists would never take a risk on discovering and researching if no one
has an interest on that certain knowledge. In conclusion, only by society why science
does exist to make sense and find solutions.

2. Considering the current state of our society, do you think science literacy
among people has contributed to the growth of our economy?

As what I've observed, science literacy among people really contributed to the
growth of our society's economy. With the help of science, there are more
development and innovations happens that greatly benefit the society as well as its
economy. Technologies, one of the most used matters invented in the world and I
think there's no technology without the help of scientific methods and strategies. Let
me take this as an example, the invention of new technologies could help us to be
more productive as well as it has been used to greatly impact and strengthen the
productivity of our economic networks. In addition, with having science literacy can
truly help us to make good judgement and decisions that can also benefit the general
well being of our economy.
Praises, for people from other culture may mean being singled out means
separated and giving special attention and treatment. Many Asians like people from
Indonesia, China, and even Philippines feel awkward if they are praised because
they feel criticized and being evaluated. It also makes them overthink and they might
have trouble understanding to the point that “Why others can say such kind things
while I’m just doing my job?” Or maybe those compliments contrast the way you see
yourself. Asians as collectivists are more concerned with what the best to others
rather than what suits them personally. People from the Asian culture conceived that
praise means being treated specially, thus, praise might make them a target for evil
eye or they will definitely receive negative reactions from others.

Saying “no” or more commonly, declining someone’s offer implying that the one
who offered could feel embarrassed. It could lead to resentment that could possibly
impact your relationship negatively. Asians are collectivists which means they are
giving more importance to social relations than individual needs and wants. Most
Asians especially from Thailand, China, Japan, and Philippines are trying to avoid
saying no because it could create ill feelings. Asians want to maintain good
relationship to others. So instead of saying “no” directly, they use indirect
communication like try being vague, saying white lies, saying words like “I’m not
sure,” “maybe,” and say “yes” and may go on to explain later why they can’t do
something. For instance, Lisa's younger sister asks for her favour to do her
homework. To avoid showing rudeness towards her, she answered “Yes, but I have
also lots of homework to do and I need to finish them right away.” It sounds like the
response is implicit and it’s up to the listener how he/she construe the respond.
