Letter of Reference for Ashley Maynard

It is a pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Ashley Maynard as she applies for a
position as a School Psychologist in your school district. I know Ashley as a highly regarded
student in the Roberts Wesleyan School Psychology Program. She participated in three of my
classes: PSY 513 Legal and Ethical Practices in School Psychology; PSY 542 Biological Psychology
and Psychopharmacology; and Assessment V: School Neuropsychological Assessment. In these
classes she was a highly motivated student who learned quickly, communicated very well orally
and in writing, and turned in excellent projects and well-written psychological reports. She was
one of the two best students in her cohort and earned an A in each of the courses I taught.

I could go on and on about Ashley’s ability as a student, but it is her personal and interpersonal
abilities that stand out and make her a desirable candidate. She is a team-oriented person who
understands the importance of working collaboratively with others in order to provide effective
services to students, teachers and families. She can skillfully lead group discussions, collaborate
with others to solve problems, and work independently to do those tasks unique to the role of a
School Psychologist.

Consider the fact that, unlike most School Psychology applicants, Ashley has experience as a
teacher. She completed a student teacher experience and has been a substitute teacher in the
Greece Central School District. She has designed lesson plans, provided differentiated
instruction, monitored student academic progress, and taught in large and small group settings.

Ashley has also had sterling reviews of her work as a School Psychology Intern in the Pittsford
Central School District. She has worked across the district, providing psychological services to
students and staff. She has conducted initial and triennial evaluations; provided IEP-mandated
individual and small group counseling; collaborated with teachers, administrators, parents, and
outside service providers; provided behavioral and emotional crisis intervention, done formal
and informal behavioral observations, and been a member of various building and district level
teams.

One of things that always impressed me about Ashley’s was how effectively she managed her
time and resources. I came to realize that she not only came to class prepared to be one of the
best students, she did so while serving as an assistant coach. I’m sure this experience aided her
in honing her leadership skills. It also gave her the opportunity to learn about impression
management, logistics, budget management and public relations. She coached a highly
successful team at the same time she met the highest standards in her graduate School
Psychology Training Program.

In summary, Ashley is an intelligent, goal oriented professional with excellent interpersonal and
intrapersonal skills. She presents as a genuine and positive person with an easy manner that
makes her very approachable. She is also a team player who understands the valuable roles
served by other school professionals. Her supervisors will appreciate that she understands that
the “job must get done”. With her remarkable organization and time management skills she will
do just that.
