E - MATH 124 – ENGINEERING DATA ANALYSIS

Quiz 1

1. What is sampling?
Sampling is the process of selecting a specific group of people that represents the population
in which you going to conduct your research with and/or people whom you are going to collect
data from.

2. Define Mode
Mode is the most frequent value that appears in the gathered data. For example, the data
gathered were “1,2,3,3,4,5,5,5,6”, the number that is most repeated is 5, thus, the mode of
data is 5.

3. Describe Median
Median, from its root word middle, means the mid value of an ordered set of data in an
ascending manner. For example, the data gathered were “1,1,2,3,4”, the middle value is 2, thus
the median for this set of data is 2.

4. Why is conducting survey important?

Conducting survey is important because surveys are where we acquire the information
needed for our research. It gives answers to our questions without being biased, for these
surveys are gathered from different people which have different opinions.

5. How to design an experiment in planning a research experiment?

In planning a research experiment, the steps are as follows:

1. State the hypothesis to be tested.

2. Formulate a context.
3. Formulate a context.
4. Design the experiment.
5. Construct the experiment.
6. Test the experimental apparatus.
7. Perform preliminary experiment.
8. Perform experiment.
9. Clean up the experiment.
10. Perform the data analysis, including statistical tests.
11. Write up the experiment and make conclusions

Why conduct research?

For us students, we conduct research because it is required for our subjects. But I also think
that researches are conducted for the sake of gathering information. Information that are used
or could be used to enhance the life and ways of the people, to innovate and create.
