XS DORR-OLUVER | HINDUSTAN DORR-OLIVER LIMITED PROCESS DESCRIPTION The proposed treatment scheme is broadly classified into five distinct sections as follows: Section - : Primary Treatment | Section - II t Polishing Treatment | Section — Ill : Slop oil handling and sludge handling system | SECTION -1 1 PRIMARY TREATMENT 1.1 Receipt Floor wash and CRW will be received through a common sewer in FW/CRW Receiving ‘Sump. The sump will be provided with two compartments with overflow arrangement. ‘The smaller compartment will receive FW in dry weather, which will be routed to TPI Separator for treatment along with OWS. In wet weather the CRW will overflow the smaller compartment and reach the bigger compartment to hold CRW, which will be treated in a separate CRW chain. | All the internal recycle streams from within ETP & Sludge disposal facilities ate collected in OWS Receiving Sump / Off-spec Effluent Sump / Equalization Tanks, as applicable. | 1.2 Screening & Grit Removal FW/CRW streams will be subjected to screening system for removing floating matters. 1,3 Free Oil Removal CRW TPI Separator will be fed with controlled flow of CRW with the help of CRW TPI Feed Pumps, in wet weather to remove free oil and suspended solids. | Free oil (dia.>60p) present in the above stream is to be removed with the help of density difference between the dispersed phase (oil) and the dispersion medium (water). Effective surface area will be adequately provided in Oil-Water separation units. To achieve this Tilted Plate Interceptors (TPI) system is envisaged. Number pf feeding channels, inclination and space between the plates will be properly provided with respect to Oil and TSS loads. Standby bays will also be provided to facilitate maintenance/repair. | VOLUMET EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT FOR PROCESS DESCRIPTION BRAHMAPUTRA CRACKER AND POLYMER Page 1 of 3 DOC. NO. A#-2100872-ED-F-24 LIMITED, ASSAM REV.RO HINDUSTAN DORR-OLIVER LRNTED 1.4 Equalization With due consideration to the hydraulic and pollutant load fluctuations typically associated with various effluent streams, Equalization is provided for CRW effluents, by holding the peak loads, equalizing and withdrawing the effluent at controlled rate. Equalization Tanks for CRW Effluent Storage Tanks will be of vertical cone roof type provided with facilities to remove floating oil layer and bottom sludge. | SECTION - II 2 POLISHING TREATMENT | In order to achieve supplemental removal of residual oil/ suspended solids, a polishing treatment has been envisaged for primary treated CRW effluent, it will comprise of Dual Media Filters followed by Activated Carbon Filters. 2.4 Filtration & Adsorption Vertical Pressure Sand Filters will be provided to remove suspended solids up to tht desired level with associated back-washing and air scouring facilities. This will also protect downstream Adsorption media filters. Associated facilities for backwashing anc air scouring of the filters will be provided with Filter Backwash Pumps and Air Scour Blowers. Vertical Activated Carbon Filters will be employed using granular activated carbon as adsorbing media in order to remove residual BOD/COD and other hydrocarbons up to the desired level, Backwashing and air scouring, as and when required, will be carried out with the Filter Backwash Pumps and Air Scour Blowers. CRW Dual Media Filters will be provided to remove residual oil and suspended solids up to the desired level with associated back-washing and air scouring facilities. CRW Vertical Activated Carbon Filters will be employed using granular activated carbon as adsorbing media in order to remove balance residual Oil and other hydrocarbons, Associated facilities for backwashing and air scouring of the above filters will be provided with respective CRW DM/AC Filter Backwash Pumps and CRW Air Scout Blowers. CRW effluent in wet weather after primary treatment will be routed to CRW Filter Feed _ Sump & will be fed to CRW Dual Media Filters and CRW Activated Carbon Filters through CRW DM/AC Filter Feed Pumps, VOLUMET EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT FOR PROCESS DESCRIPTION BRAHMAPUTRA CRACKER AND POLYMER Page 2 of 3 DOC.NO. SECTION ~ III 3 SLOP & SLUDGE HANDLING 3.1 Slop Handling Wet slop ie, oll skimmed/removed from CRW Effluent Storage Tanks and from various subsequent oil handling units, through appropriate oil skimmers, will be routed to a Wet Slop Oil Sump. Sump contents will be routed to Wet Slop Oil Tanks with the help of Wet Slop Pumps. The oil separated from these Tanks ie. dry slop will be disposed outside the ETP B/L, provision will also be made to transfer it to road tanker als through Dry Slop Transfer Pumps, The decanted water from the slop oil tank bottom will be routed under gravity to the OWS Receiving Sump/ off spec effluent sump for treatment in the ETP. 3.2. Sludge Handling Oily & Chemical Sludge generated in various Oil handling units will be collected in Oily & Chemical Sludge Sump and then pumped to a Oily & Chemical Sludge Thickener using Oily & Chemical Sludge Pumps. Thickened sludge will be collected in Thickened Oily & Chemical Sludge Sump and then it will be routed to Oily Sludge Centrifuge with the help of Thickened Oily & Chemical Sludge Pumps to de-water the same. The centrifuge will be placed at an elevation to enable direct transfer of sludge cakes to a trolley placed below the sludge chute.
