Lesson 5:

1. How are print, broadcast, and new media different from one another in terms of the way they
are used to share information?

- Print media share information through newspapers, magazines, journals, newsletters,

and other printed materials. Broadcast media share information via radio and television,
while new media uses the internet platforms such as blogs.

2. For you, what is the importance of the different TV and film ratings set by MTRCB?

- The ratings given by the MTRCB are their guidance for the viewers to know if that
certain show or movie is suitable for them. It is important to let the audience know the
content that they are about to see, it’s like a warning or a note to them.

3. Is it okay to use photos and lines from suspects for memes? Explain why or why not.

- Personally for me, I do not agree with that because first of all we all have our privacy
and rights as a person, and posting my information or photo/s online without my consent
is a violation of my rights and privacy, but if it was given consent then maybe its okay.

Lesson 6:

1. Do you agree with "Not all things legal are ethical and not all things ethical are legal?"
Explain and give a situation that supports your answer.

- Stated are two completely different statements, (1) not all things legal are ethical and (2)
not all things ethical are legal. Before I should say if I agree or not, let's define what being
"legal" and "ethical" is.

A law is a mandate or something that is written and is made to be followed for legal reasons
ethics, on the other hand, is our set of (unwritten) morals which differ from person/culture to
person/culture.

So in the first statement, LEGAL BUT NOT ETHICAL. It is something you can do without
being faced with any charges but deep inside you know for yourself that you did something
wrong. For example: you found a P100 bill on the ground, it is ok AND LEGAL for you to pick
it up and keep it – but because of ethics, there's this part of you that you want to look for its
owner, in short there’s sense of bad conscience.

The other one, ETHICAL BUT NOT LEGAL. It is when you made an action which was out of
pure intention but then you are violating a constitutional law/rule. For example, you have no
more money and you felt hungry – because of your hunger, you stole from a bakery. You did that
for you to be satisfied or to feed yourself - which is understandable and correct because you
shouldn’t starve yourself at the same time it is wrong because it is illegal to steal. Both have its
dilemma, depending on the situation.

I agree to both statements maybe with reservations. Because the law is not constant, it always
changes from time to time to make sure that it benefits and/or protects the people, whilst ethics
usually is inclined with the heart/mind of an individual. So in the end, it's still a matter of
perspective if what you consider something as ethical or not.

2. Watch this video: Give at least two reasons that makes plagiarism present here.

3. Are societal issues in the information age, such as internet addiction, cyber bullying, and
digital divide avoidable? Expound your answer.

- For me it is avoidable because it all depends on one’s behavior, understanding, and way
of thinking. In our world, everyone has their own flaws no one was made to be perfect,
and so we should all accept this fact and be a good person and not bring others down. We
all have our different strengths and weaknesses, we should not compare ourselves.
