FINAL EXAMINATION IN UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

INTEGRATED PAPER

Background: An integrated paper is a type of review of the literature that includes the analysis, synthesis and
evaluation of information on a well-defined content area and includes the writer’s original thoughts and ideas on the
topic which are based upon the available evidences. In this case, the topics covered in Understanding the Self will be
integrated while relating it to one’s experiences in life. The topics that should be incorporated in this paper are as
follow:

1. Social Self (including culture and roles of the self)

2. Sexual Self (sexuality, gender identity)
3. Material Self (possessions and being materialistic)
4. Spiritual Self (spirituality and religion)
5. Political Self (political stand, being a Filipino)
6. Digital Self (self in social media)

The integrated paper begins with a brief introduction to each areas of the self and focuses the reader’s attention on the
issue and background of the problem. This brief introduction leads the writer into a review of each of the pertinent areas
that must be explored to gain an understanding of the many facets associated with the subject of interest. It is the
writer’s responsibility to provide logical transitions from one pertinent area to another. It is through these transitions
that the reader begins to understand the larger picture.

After discussing each of these pertinent areas, it is the writer’s responsibility to write a conclusion that provides closure
for the reader. The conclusion should be coherent and well pointed and lead the reader’s attention to the direction
which the writer perceives is the logical next step. The conclusion contains the integration of all the topics discussed
above and the synthesis that would explain oneself.

Instructions:

1. The integrated paper must be written in a way that it explains oneself as the student relates to the subtopics
discussed throughout the term. See the mentioned subtopics covered above.
2. The last paragraph of the integrated paper must be the conclusion. It must answer the question: “Who am I,
really?”
3. The integrated paper should NOT be more than 3 pages long. It must contain 8 paragraphs in total, including the
Introduction and Conclusion. One paragraph is allotted for each subtopic mentioned above.
1 Introduction
6 subtopics
+ 1 Conclusion
8 paragraphs

4. Format for the integrated paper: Courier New, size 12, moderate margin (1” top & bottom, 0.75” left and right),
