SABZI MANDI
Introduction

Agriculture is one of the most critical sectors of the Indian economy. Growth and
development of agriculture and allied sector directly affect the well-being of people at
large, rural prosperity and employment. Farmers in India have been in a state of exploit since
ages and govt. has never stopped finding solutions for this. One of the biggest solutions was
establishment of Mandis or Agriculture Produce Market Commitee (APMC). Sabzi Mandi in
itself has a great significance in a localtiy.
To begin with, we must go back to when the MANDI system emerged. What were the reasons
that led to the formation of this system and then study its elements in details covering the
SABZI MANDI of four ethnographies :

What are MANDIS? What are different types
of MANDIS?
Mandi in Hindi language means market
place. Traditionally, such market places were

for food and agri-commodities. However, over
time the coverage of mandis got widened to
include trading hubs for grains, vegetables, JAGGERY
timber, gems and diamonds; almost every
tradable was included.

Location of Sabzi Mandis.

The location of Sabzi Mandi is kept on the out

skirts of the city. There is a lot of trade that
happens in the mandi during the early hours
of the day, So in order to not disturb the city
with the noise and honking of heavy vehicles,
the location is kept aloof.
Also, as the import and export are a major
concern the areas are well connected with
highways and roads and are kept close to
railway stations, Bus stations, etc.
