VIDIO SUMMARY

This video tells about how nursing students and new nurses can learn
how to master a patient's condition. The patient's status has so much information
in it and it is difficult to know what information is important to make the nurse's
job easier. This video discusses an easy way to describe the material, how to use a
nursing report sheet, and how to understand a patient's status.
A nursing report sheet is a sheet of paper used by nurses to help track
patients. The nurse report sheet starts at the beginning of the nurse's shift when
getting a report from the previous shift nurse.
Why do nurses use nursing report sheets?
The nurse report sheet is very useful because it contains important information
about the patient's diagnosis, allergy history, treating doctor, consultation, things
that need to be done during the shift nurse, timing of drug administration, vital
signs, laboratory results and others. Report sheets have other uses but are not
limited to:
 Keep track of doctor orders received over the phone
 Critical Lab Value
 Helps track intake and output
 Helps track blood sugar and insulin coverage
 Nursing notes to remind about things that need to be done for the patient or
chart in
 Notes on things to pass on next shift
Benefits of Nursing Report Sheet
 Quick access to unlock patient information. If asked by a doctor for certain
patients, it is enough to look at the report sheet to find out. We're not going to
grope around and try to remember which patient he's talking about.
 Help keep track of things that need to be done before our shift is over.
 Help differentiate between each patient. When having 6 to 7 patients, the
patient's diagnosis and history can go hand in hand and may be confusing.
 Help keep patient mapping more accurate. If we write on the report sheet the
things that need to be remembered to be mapped, the report generation will be
more accurate and easier to do. Again with 6 to 7 patients, everything tends to
go together.
What is the Best Way to Understand and Master a Patient's History?
One of the most important things to learn as a nursing student or new nurse is how
to understand all the material in the patient's status. Patient status contains so
much material and find out what is important for nurses to do their jobs as nurses.
This article provides some easy ways on how to master the history of the patient's
condition.
Patient status contains a lot of material and can be overwhelming, especially for
nursing students and new nurses to understand it all. In addition, it is impossible
to remember everything about all patients, especially if there are many patients.
