Thaher, R. H., & Jamil, Z. S. (2018). Design of dual band microstrip antenna for Wi-Fi and
WiMax applications. Telkomnika (Telecommunication Computing Electronics and
Control), 16(6), 2864–2870. https://doi.org/10.12928/TELKOMNIKA.v16i6.10016
Purpose and objectives of the article (with your own sentences)
Microstrip antennas are taken into consideration as one of the maximums used and
favored antennas as compared with ordinary microwave antennas, and this is because of
the truth that those varieties of antennas are low volume, light weight and thin profile
arrangements, which may be made conformal. Microstrip antennas additionally are
equipped for double and even triple frequency operations which is very desirable.
There are many dual band antennas proposed for WiFi/WiMax applications. In this paper,
a rectangular dual-band microstrip antenna for WiFi/WiMax applications in 2.4/5.8 GHz
bands is presented. The antenna consists of a rectangular patch that contains five
rectangular and a rectangular slot in ground plane. The slot in the ground enhances the
gain and bandwidth while the slots in the patch improves the return loss. The proposed
antenna is simulated using CST microwave studio 2016 and the obtained radiation
characteristics of the antenna are presented.
Results of the article (with your own sentences)
The geometry of proposed antenna is given in the figure 1. it consists of a rectangular
patch whose width and length are 18.2 mm and 22 mm respectively. FR-4 selected with
4.3 dielectric constant and 1.5 mm thickness for substrate material. The patch and ground
plane are made of copper with thickness 0.035 mm. Five rectangular slots are etched on
the patch which helps achieve dual band radiation at the desired frequencies.

The return loss vs. frequency of the proposed antenna is shown in Figure 2. The return loss is
found at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz -32.77 dB and -25.955 dB respectively.

Figure 3 shows the graph of VSWR at center frequencies for the proposed antenna less than 2.
Figure 4 shows the gain of the proposed antenna for the two frequencies.

Fabrication of the proposed antenna has been carried out. It is given in the figure 5. And then,
simulation results and measurement results are compared. It gives in the figure 6.

Finally, a dual band rectangular microstrip antenna at 2.4 GHz/5.8 GHz bands for Wi-Fi/WiMax
applications is presented. The results show acceptable return loss, bandwidth and gain making it
suitable for Wi-Fi/WiMax.
Original study that you prepared with reference to article
In this week, I wrote a paper to 2nd International Conference on Applied Engineering and
Natural Sciences. So, I spent most of my time in here. Also, I read this article. In this article, it is
working to improve design of dual band microstrip antenna for Wi-Fi and WiMax
applications. In this article, I examined some antenna designs in literature and designed
various models. Also effect of the changes made in the designed antennas on the antenna
parameters were examined. I examined some data about designed antennas, S 11
parameters, voltage standing wave ratio, polarization views, current distributions etc.
Finally, I designed antenna in article as can see in the figure 7. I observed the results but
expected results were not achieved that’s why they aren’t included here. Buti this antenna
will improve in this week and expected results will obtain.
