Activity 1:

I was in the 7th grade and I had 2 best friends. I used to be innocent at first - not
bunking classes, no cheating, etc. But with them, my whole world took a 360° turn, I
was no longer "innocent", I used to bunk annual day practices, and eating between
classes no longer seemed scary and dangerous.
Okay so; one time in 7th grade, all the 7th graders were asked to arrive early to school
5:30 am in morning) to take part in a marathon organized by a company which used to
fund our school. I am not a morning person but this seemed pretty exciting because my
friends would be there too.
So my mom dropped me off at school and went home. There was still time for all of us
to leave. We decided to hang out in the washroom (I hated that but I used to join them
because they liked looking at their reflection in the mirror). We could hear the chatter of
the people outside. We started playing some game, I don't remember what game but I
got so engrossed in it that we lost track of time.
After 10 or so minutes I noticed that the constant chatter of the people outside had
stopped.
Me: Abbey, itna sannata kyu hai? (Hey, why is it so quiet all of a sudden?)
Friend1: Arre sab log bags lene gaye honge. 5 mins baad Chaltehai. (Everybody must
be collecting their belongings. We'll leave after 5 mins)
Me: Nahi beh chal abhi. (No, please let’sgo right now)
We leave the washroom to find that the corridors were dark and there was not a single
soul present there. Everybody had left us!
Me: I told you, I warned you didn't I? WE ARE ALONE IN THE SCHOOL. NONE OF
THE STAFF IS HERE!
Friend1: SHUTUP! We'll find a way to chill.
Friend2: Okay I'm scared. I've heard the pre-primary area is haunted. hears a weird
squeak OMG WHAT IS THAT WE ARE DOOMED!
Me: Our class teacher is going to kill us. Maybe they'll complain against us to our
parents and the principal and then we'll get suspended. starts crying
We had lost all hopes. We couldn't even make a call from the school to our parents
because we were all alone in the school.
But then, we saw a car. A lady came outside the car and seem confused. She was a
new teacher in a school and very gullible. We went to her and told her that we came 5
mins ago and everybody had left and that we desperately needed a lift. She was a bit
hesitant but she agreed.
The car ride was awkward as hell. My friend couldn't stop laughing and the other one
slept. I tried to have a small talk with the teacher so that I could leave a good impression
in case some teacher asked her certain questions about us.

When we reached, people had already started running and we joined in as if nothing
happened.
Activity 3:

“Volunteering after the storm with all hands”

The storm “Maringwokeed me up last October 11, 2021, with tears falling in my eyes as
I open my social media to see what’s happening outside our house and in the near
town. This is the first time in my whole existence I saw my fellow Abrenos shouting for
help on different social media platforms in the middle of the night. Some of the barangay
was washed out by the typhoon, the current was turned off and some people even
babies and elders are on the roof stranded and shouting for help. Blank-eyed survivors
are searching for lost family members and pets with the kind of muted, disconnected
horror that everyone feels when they’re seeing a disaster unfold from the other side of
their TV and phone screen. It hurts me more watching farmers crying as they saw their
plants “palay” wrecked by the typhoon and their “kalabaw” drowned and drifted in the
river where their livelihood depends on.
Therefore, I decided to offer with all my hands and do a volunteer wk. But the challenge
for me is, “I’m only a student who is still dependent on my parent”. As a student, I didn’t
have enough to share with my pocket expenses. There, I realized if I can’t share at any
cost for them to rise again, maybe my strength and give some donation. I volunteered
myself in conducting a clearing of plot land operation in the barangays devastated by
the typhoon. This type of volunteering can take an emotional toll on me too. Sometimes,
whilst sorting through the debris I’d uncover items, a water-damaged photo album,
someone’s plastic ID badge, a broken ornament, a dog’s skull. Each discovery
reminded me that this pile of rock used to be a home, a place where a family lived and
loved. Even though all hands assess each site carefully to ensure there’s little chance of
it happening, the idea that I might uncover someone’s remains amongst the wreckage
always lurked in the very back of my mind. Also, I collated all the clothes that I no longer
used and collected some on my family and neighbors too as a donation and give them
to the typhoon victims.
Volunteering in this kind of tragedy is one of my life’s best experiences. Removing the
wounds caused by Typhoon Maring may only be the beginning of the healing and
rebuilding process but seeing the impact to the victims and theon smile made all the
swesmilesd pain worthwhile. Abrenos remain resilient and kind even though they lost so
much in the storm. Above all else, when this storm happens again remember that there
is hope and this hope will be found in us by having a good heart to offer our hands.
