PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

Spalding is a sports manufacturing company founded by Albert Spalding in 1876.

Spalding has been a leading producer of sports equipment worldwide and is looking to
evolve and stay current with customer wants and needs. The company produces a wide
array of products from sports equipment to apparel. Spalding has multiple partnerships
with professional orgainizations like NBA and the Euro league. The relationships built
with professional leagues is what keeps Spalding as a force in the industry.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

I work for the company Spalding a sports manufacturing company as a project manager. I
have been assigned a project to devlop a plan to make our basketball line more
environmentally friendly, while also maintaing cost effective measures and keeping
quality as a priority. Spalding has used a leather mixture for our basketballs and our
stakholders have taken notice that customers are more environmentally concious.
Maintaing the level of profitability and quality is key.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

The following meeting I will depict is the initial review of the overall project between
stakeholders Jim and Suzy and myself. Jim and Suzy share the idea that a change is
needed to stay competeive and it is believed that producing a more environmentally
friendly basketball will accomplish this. Jim and Suzy made it abundantly clear that being
cost effective and time are two leading factors to consider. A requirement is that the
project must be completed in 3 months so Spalding can market its new line before the
NBA season starts. Production, materials, quality and cost are main focalpoints.
