PCA-Structural Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the structural frame
2. Apply the structural frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

I work for the company Spalding a sports manufacturing company as a project manager. I
have been assigned a project to devlop a plan to make our basketball line more
environmentally friendly, while also maintaing cost effective measures and keeping
quality as a priority. Spalding has used a leather mixture for our basketballs and our
stakholders have taken notice that customers are more environmentally concious.
Maintaing the level of profitability and quality is key.

2) Describe how the structure of the organization influenced the situation.

The structure of the organization is beneficial to me as a project manager because

Spalding is a fairly small organization. Which mankes it easy for me operate due to there
not being a large chain of command. The meeting in which I was assigned this project
only had Jim and Suzy present, this is representative for how Spalding runs its company.

3) Recommend how you would use structure for an alternative course of action
regarding your case.

With Spalding being such a small operation given its size the structure can be viewed as a
positive in most lights its structure can also lead to issues. It is difficult to orgainizae
meetings or get basic information from the stakeholders Jim and Suzy because they have
about 5 different projects to oversee at any given time.

A happy medium would be the perfect situation because this project being a fairly large
overhall of our most popular project requires the focus of everyone involved. Combine
that with the short timeframe of 3 months and we absolutely have our work cut out for us.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

1
I would instill an appropriate clear division of labor (Bolman, Deal, 2017). It is imaritive
for this project to have all hands on deck. I believe that we are all drawn to thin.
