PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

As stated in the previous module, the situation I will be analyzing is the overhaul and
reconstruction of the mechanized lines in the outbound department. As an area supervisor
for the Home Depot, we went through changing standard practices, a complete warehouse
renovation and the expectations of providing feedback along the way. Throughout this
entire process we had to make sure to provide adequate training to all associates and find
a way to continue to push freight through the building despite the construction.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

The biggest human resource that went into this project was investing in the company and
the people. Creating this new, more efficient way of conducting business not only added
more jobs into the warehouse but it also put money back into the pockets of associates.
Associates receive quarterly bonuses, with efficiency and cost factors contributing to the
overall payout. By expanding the mech. lines Home Depot was making an investment in
the future of the employees and the overall success of the company. Associates were
wary of the new process and how it would be successful when the construction was
taking place, but those who still remain have seen dramatic improvements in both
efficiency and bonuses.

Another human resource involved in the construction process was the empowerment of
management and employees. Once the construction was complete all of the associates
had the ability to voice their opinion on how the standard work would be conducted.
Associates were able to give feedback on the process and make adjustments when
necessary. Most of the processes that are now in place were perfected by the warehouse’s
own associates, not corporate.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

As an alternative course of action I wouls still implement the same forms of human
resources, but open the lines of communication more. Throughout the project the only
people involved from our warehouse were the General Manager and the Maintnence
Manager. Updates to the project and specific deadlines would have been given to the
entire warehouse would have kept every associate informed. Even if associates did not
personally help with the construction happening throughout the warehouse, they may
have been more at ease with more information.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

Even though I was not directly involved in the project, I would have asked more
questions throughout the process. After the project was completed, I would have taken
more information and feedback from associates. Even though the operation has
improved, we may have been able to improve even faster if we went and solicited
feedback from every single associate. Asking other supervisors their opinion on how the
floor should be ran, compared to how they had managed in the past may have also helped
with the transition.
