has brought her to the clinic because she has diarrhea.
Jenny has no danger signs because signs the mother says that Jenny is able to drink and is not vomiting
and has not had convulsions, she is not also lethargic or unconscious.
a. Pneumonia. Why?
Jenny does not have signs of severe pneumonia or very severe disease. But she has fast breathing
therefore, I classified Jenny as having pneumonia.
b. Dehydration. Why?
Jenny has none of the signs of severe dehydration, drinks eagerly are a sign of some dehydration
but Jenny has no other signs of some dehydration therefore, I classified Jenny as diarrhea with
no dehydration
c. Malnutrition. Why?
Jenny does have visible severe wasting. She has some Palm pallor; she does not have edema of
both feet. But Jenny was very low weight for age. I classified Jenny having malnutrition or severe
anemia.
Case Scenario 2
Josh is aged 6 months he weighs 6 kilograms and his temperature is 38 degrees josh has been brought to
the clinic because he has diarrhea.
Josh was able to drink and he was not vomiting and did not have convulsions. Josh was not lethargic or
unconscious. He does not have any of the general danger signs
a. Pneumonia. Why?
Josh does not have a general danger sign. No chest in drawing or stridor, he has no signs of
severe pneumonia or very severe disease. And since he has fast breathing therefore, I classify
Josh as having pneumonia
Since Josh has sunken eyes and a very slow skin pinch which are both signs of severe
dehydration. Josh had diarrhea for only five days which means he was not classified for
persistent diarrhea because he had no blood in the stool so he was not classified as dysentery I
would therefore classify Josh as having diarrhea with severe dehydration
