- para malaman kung ano ang gusto iparating nung artists.
- pagpapakita ng appreciation towards the artist.

SEMIOTIC PLANE - ferdinand de saussure and charles sandres peirce are the founders
of semiotics
- Semiotic is the study of signs and symbols and their use one
interpretation.
- the word "semiotics" is a greek word means "sign"
what is sign?
- this can be take many forms, words, numbers, sounds, photographs,
paintings, and roads signs and more.
- anything that creates meaning.
- may be different from the individual who gives meaning.
- anything that can be used tp represent something else.
2 parts of sign
Signifier - refersto the physyical form.
Signified- it is the concept that the signifier refers to.

3 types of signifier
1. signifier as icon
- icons bears a physical resemblance to what is being represented. (kagayang-
kagaya ng nirerepresent niya)
2. as symbol
- symbols are at the opposite and of from icons, the connections between
signifier and signifies in symbols is completely arbritary and must be culturally
learned ( it based on own preferences)
3. as index
-An index describe the connection between signifier and signifiesd. With an
index, the signifier cannot exist without the presence of the signified. An index
is the sign that shows the evidence of the concept or object being represented.
( need muna makita yung picture or concept to know the signifier) ( mas mahalaga
ang concept kaysa sa word- like jollibee)

ICONIC PLANE - image itself.


- includes the choice of a subject which may bear SOCIAL and POLITICAL
implications.
- the plane of analysis that examines signifiers as unique signs with
particular and highly nuanced meanings
- iconic plan can ask the question: "Is the subject meaningful in terms of
the socio-cultural context, does it reflect or have a bearing om the values and
ideologies arising in a particular place and time?"

CONTEXTUAL PLANE- it analysis the artwork in a different perspective. it looks an


artwork on a cultural, social, or political context. It is often used by
historians, art critics, or sociologists.
what should we look for?
* History- when was the text wriiten? and where
* Author - who is the author , why did he/she do it? , Which are the
target audeince
* Influence - what are some political, cultural, or social factor na
nakaapektoi sa author? , ano nakaimpluwensya sa author para gawin ang art?
* Reaction - Dos the text prompt readers to a certain action? , the
readers feeling when thgey saw the artwork.
