“Contrast”

Hierarchy of perfection is what most people are aiming for. A perfect world, perfect life,
and perfect love. These could either coexist or bound to unite as one for a common purpose.
Happiness. A feeling that lights the way of any individual in reaching the utmost fulfillment and
contentment in life. However, this seems to be a problem. Does our definition of happiness truly
mean everything that we perceived it to be? If so, what is happiness?

Certainly, it is observable from the novel Binary World that Lars felt sad, grief, and lost
after he and his girlfriend, Alyssa, had broke up. His mourn waved from his heart that lashes out
on its own. A smile or even just a grin vanished from his face. A heavy heart weighted against his
will to live again. Had the chance to end his life but was stopped. Moment by moment, nothing
came into realization about the importance of his suffering. A barrier that was built with regrets,
guilt, and sadness. Manifesting a chronology of saddened past.

Phantoms of Lars devoured and overshadowed reality, which makes it hard to fathom his
views and beliefs in accordance to what is the truth. He then sought-after something that everyone
would ever imagine. Perfection. Happiness of life in any means. Channeling joy in every aspect of
living. He then agreed to enter a different realm. A world where problems are inexistent with full-
blown pleasure ahead of him. Then, hierarchy starts.

Perfect World. Most of us might come to a point where we imagined a perfect world. A
world where peace and well-being of all nations or countries is perpetual. Hunger, disastrous
calamities, war, or even death no longer cumber on anyone’s shoulder. Just like a gravity that
respond to certain demands of everyone which lift them above all grounds of grief and sorrow.
Lars went on and explore this world. He happens to experience on how things would be, if the
world is perfect. As part of being a human, one should have a job to suffice the material needs,
going to an educational institution, have their different religious belief without dissent, etc., are
much to experience. Many of us might think that these are challenges that move along with
problems. But this is not the case in the said world. Thus, a perfect world it is.

Perfect Life. Here, daily activities of humans particularly on a job easy or hard, simple or
complex, are congruent to happiness, contentment, and fulfillment of living in the world. Stresses
do not thrive in everyone’s head. Health issues are not a big concern since nobody would likely to
experience it. Living life like no other. Burdens of our soul dramatically heals in an overwhelming
power that govern our emotions. One might not need of any wishes, hopes, or even dreams,
everyone in this world have the opportunity of living life to the fullest. Granting their own desires
to what had been asked and enjoy the things on what have been given. Lars have it all. The luxury,
simplicity, quality, and exemplary of life. It all bound to one experience. Thus, a perfect life it is.

Perfect Love. I can say that the foundation of all perfection is love, perfect love. A person
that possesses true love can share it to anybody in many forms. Love for family, friends, neighbors,
and most especially, the love for a special someone. This love holds three elements; passion,
romance, and commitment. Lars gave it all to Alyssa, but the reality struck him hard. Alyssa broke
up with him. This made Lars devastated, and almost took his life. Luckily, he had the chance to
love again. A love that will be surely reciprocated. A feeling that boils down to the instrument of
love. Heart. The instrument that houses the living proof of forever. So long as the heart beats, there
goes an eternal love. Thus, a perfect love it is.

But reality is so impactful that leave us with doubts, confusions, and uncertainties. How
does a hierarchy of perfection still not enough to be happy? How does happiness, ideal of
everybody, ends in such an abrupt way?

Truth is, in order to feel optimum happiness, we needed to feel or experience grief, sorrow,
and sadness. The contrasts of happiness that moves in a constant equilibrium. The true perfection
that we should look for. Thus, happiness it is.

“Then happiness exists to people whom experience sadness”
