The House of Hungarian Music is among the most anticipated projects to be

completed in 2021. The building is being built on the territory of Budapest's largest
park next to Lake Varoshliget. The author is the architect Su Fujimoto: he knows how
to conduct a silent dialogue with nature without trying to outdo it.

The Hungarian Music House is designed as part of Liget Budapest - an ambitious

project that combines the largest park architecture complex in Hungary with a cultural
institution. Organizers claim it is the largest European program since the turn of the
millennium.

Su Fujimoto's project was chosen in an anonymous competition among 168 projects

in 2014. "The challenge was exciting: not only had to create a building, but also to
bring in a sense of a park," Soo Fujimoto says.

The architecture is based on unprecedented engineering. "The key element, the

organic shaped roof, is inspired by the visual image of sound vibration, that is, the
wave. There are no right angles in its design and virtually no two elements are the
same," says Su Fujimoto. - About 100 individually designed holes cut through the
roof. They're designed for trees, and they're also the beginning of light wells that
direct light all the way down to the lowest levels." Another feature is the glass wall
that gives the structure its transparency. It consists of 94 custom-made insulating
panels that are up to 12 meters high.

The environmental focus is one of the key aspects of the project. One hundred and
twenty heat pumps are installed underground at a depth of 100 meters to provide
renewable geothermal energy. Another cost-effective solution is a remote cooling
system. The building of the Hungarian Music House and the process of its
construction are recognized as exemplary from an environmental point of view
according to the international BREEAM standard.

When completed, the building will operate as a comprehensive music venue, offering
a wide range of events. The lower, underground level will host exhibitions, permanent
and temporary, as well as light shows. The park level will be devoted to live
performances, both in concert halls and on an open-air bandstand; the lakefront
terrace will be a recreational space. The top floor will house the Hungarian pop music
archive and seminar rooms.

"Liget Budapest is a truly symbolic development project that can serve as an example
for future developers: it has managed to create an exceptional harmony between
nature and the urban environment," says Su Fujimoto.
