Technology is a key component everyone uses on the daily. It’s in homes, work,
schools, even in pockets. It went from AOL Dialup to 5G; computers that take up whole
rooms to a tiny laptop on the desk. Seems the past 30 plus years, technology has boomed!
Schools has taken advantage of this increase boom of technology and implemented it into
teachings. Children are being taught how to type and access the web. Teenagers are
learning how to write essays and do research papers. College students are writing fifteen
page research papers with citations. College students are also being taught to create apps,
However, the school board is trying to take away Technology and revert back to
archaic teachings. I truly believe it’s a bad idea. If technology is on the path it is now, ten-
twenty years from now, literally everything will be technology based. “Most teachers
support these technology standards. They want to see their students taking technology
initiatives and utilizing digital tools for their own learning purposes. Students should be
using handheld devices to engage with content in meaningful ways like: Creating digital
video and graphic media design to support concept.Engaging in live vlogging about a topic
2019).
Without children being taught young, they will play catch-up when the grow up. I
believe we as adults should continue to teach children using tech, since technology won’t
stop advancing. Schools should been given the budget to gain access to laptops, and
teachers should be paid to advance their knowledge. Technology will never go away, it’ll
adapt and advance. We as a civilization need to adapt with the times and move forward.
The state of Nevada has two different types of Standards teachers use. One is:
Nevada Computer and Technology Standards. The other is: ISTE. NCTS is an indicator
children grade levels 2-12 should master Technology based. Think of it like ECERS/ITERS,
but with Technology. Theres six Standards they must meet: Creative/Innovation,
roadmap for effective use in technology WORLDWIDE. There’s many topics to choose
from but I will be focusing on two: ISTE Standards for Students, and ISTE Standards for
Teachers. ISTE has seven Standards: Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge
Global Collaborator.
They may look different, but they can be similar. Both can be used in Nevada as a
guide for Digital Teachings. For example, I’m using Creative/Innovation(NCTS) and
get creative on the daily. Never had the opportunity to incorporate tech with it. For NCTS
portion I’m using: 1.B.2.1-Create an original work using a variety of digital tools as a means
of personal or group expression. For ISTE I will be using: 1.6C- Students communicate
complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such
• Objective: Students will be able choose a photo they would like Photoshop and present
to the class.
• Materials needed to facilitate the lesson: Four iPads-camera feature, and the ibisPaint X
• Procedures: Four students are given iPads and taken outside to take photos of what they
see that intrigues them. They have five minutes to take as many photos as they want.
After the five minutes, each child gets to ‘heart’ one photo they want to work on. Then
the teacher will open the ibisPaint X app and show them how to learn the basics of
drawing and coloring on it. Next, they will have 20 minutes (max) to create their work of
art. Teacher will walk around and help if needed. Once the 20 minutes are up, the photos
are then printed out (full page) and displayed onto a poster board. Each student will
present their final work: why they choose a specific image and what they did to it; to the
class(30 seconds per child) and the class is given one sticky-note to be place next to the
image they like best. After the whole class finishes, the teacher along with the class will
count out loud the votes and the teacher will write the number on the board. The teacher
will ask the class who has the most votes and they will take a guess.
My class are Preschoolers, so my expectations are for them to have fun and be
creative. I’m not putting pressure for them to create this extravagant piece of virtual art
and get an actual grade for it. I want to show my littles there’s more to technology than
Youtube and game apps. My nephew was two when he started exploring tech and now at
age nine, he can write Code. I would like my class to try and have the same opportunity.
I created an example of what the ibisPaint X app can do. It came out weird and
kinda cool. I had my three year old nephew pick the photo he wanted us to work on. He
chose the outside of my work building for us to work on. I showed him what features the
app has and we got to work. He was excited at first to do this, then got frustrated cause he
was tired from a day at school. But his art was cute and shinny. Mine came out just weird. I
