I
n a year that favored outdoor events, the arts community
in Taylor revisioned how art could keep its residents
engaged and moving forward. Looking to add texture to
the community, 2021 saw public art projects come to fruition.
In addition to public art, Heritage Square welcomed a new live
music series. The downtown small businesses continued to
evolve in 2021, this included more opportunities to enjoy live
music across Taylor.
TAYLOR PUBLIC ARTS
The Taylor Public Arts Advisory Board continues to invest in
creative projects across Taylor. Each display explores Taylor’s
history, building on its sense of place. With high quality
projects Taylor will continue to be a destination
“Art is a public good,” Richard Stone said, Taylor Public Arts
Advisory Board Chair.
The Taylor Public Arts advisory board worked on several
projects this year. The Painted Pianos on Main met with delight
from across the area. The Music on Main series deputed in July.
The Potters Alley Mural Project will see a bold addition this fall.
The Portal Project continues with an open call for designs from
the community.
MUSIC ON MAIN
With the July launch of the Music on Main community music

IN TAYLOR
series, sponsored by Ancira Salsa, see live music on Heritage
Square through November. In conjunction with the Main Street
Advisory Board, the Third Thursday shows will include food
trucks.
The upcoming September show is slated for Thursday,
September 17 at 6 p.m., with headliner the Chubby Knuckle
Choir, a blues rock band. The Music on Main will end its
season with Joe Posada, a Tejano saxophonist on the Saturday,
November 13 at 7 p.m.
Located at 400 N. Main St. in the Heritage Square Park. Free
and family and dog friendly.
PORTAL PROJECT
The Portal Project started in May with two portals painted by
local artists, Karen Burgess and Dixie Sefcak Rhoades along the
Taylor Hike and Bike trail. The project continues this fall with
six additional portals scheduled.
The first in the Fall Portal series is by Casey Anderson, whose
design features mallard ducks and native fish. It will be located
next to the existing portals
