Post forwarding

Ports are how computers distinguish between multiple services listening on one
computer
Allows remote servers and devices on the internet to access the devices that are within
your private local-area network (LAN).
• Local port: LAN device to get data from a destination you don’t have access to
but an intermediate has.
• Remote port: Allows your device to be visible to other remote devices or on the
internet.
• Dynamic port: Virtually an extension of the local port forwarding. Works by
creating a proxy of sorts.
Used for:
• Hosting game servers
• Running remote desktop protocols
• Permitting file transfers
• Running a publicly accessible website
• Using torrent applications
• Hosting your own VPN server
Bridge Mode
Configuration that disables the NAT feature on the modem and allows a router to
function as a DHCP server without an IP address conflict.
The modem has to be bridged before connecting to a router since applications live VPN,
P2P, and a remote management require a public IP address on the router WAN port for
a successful conecction.
NAT: Network Address translation, involves re-writing the source and-or destination
address of IP packets as they pass through a router. Allows multiple hosts on a private
network to access the internet using a single public IP address.

Firewall
Is a network security device that monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic and
devices whether to allow or block specific traffic bases on a defined set of security rules.
Firewalls can provide different levels of protection, The key is determining how much
protection you need
Packet filtering: Management program that can block network traffic IP protocol, an IP
address, and a port number. This type of firewall is the most basic form of protection
and is meant for smaller networks.
Proxy service: System that can help protect your network security by filtering messages
at the application layer. It essentially serves as a gateway or middleman between your
internal network and outside servers on the web.

DVR
Digital video recorder. It lets you record any TV program, rewind and fast-forward live
TV. Create your own instant replays.
