Subtraction Guiding Question: Observing a whole group math lesson Observation Notes: -everything was laid out and ready to start -good organization to have partners thought out and ready -ongoing flexibility with intervention groups changing today! -reading was difficult for some groups – consider use of symbols and pictures for K-1 students - good reminder about working together - group work will always be like this, but it is a good skill to teach to be considerate of others -after about 45 minutes, some students got distracted/silly, but they still got their jobs done -went through answers after with the group BT, LM, TT, BC, SJ didn’t understand/were distracted, but you kept it short Follow up Questions: -Did the lesson go as you had planned? Yes -How did students’ understanding of topic deepen? How do you know? Some students understood better than others, but were prompted to help. We just the started the unit, so it was good practice.
