Flow Chart for: TARGET GAMES

KEYS: As you move through the flow chart, ask yourself the following two questions:
1 What do I want my students to think about and do in this game?
2 How do I design the game to make this happen?

Grade Level Recommendations - Unit / Lesson Planning
•K-2: Bowling and rolling style unopposed games --> play to cooperate & play to compete (i.e., focus on PB); working on gym management & ettiquette
•Grades 3 / 4: Games now adjust starting point, target line, & intermediate target with gradual additions of 'opposed' games; continue bowling/rolling,
but add underhand tossing; utilizing multiple SSG on competitive games.
•Grades 4 / 5: Opposed games now adjust starting point, target line, & intermediate targets, focussing on speed of arm swing & length of backswing
depending on target distance (in student's pre-shot decisions related to control and consistency). Move from competitive to scoring games.
•Grade 6 & higher: All types and progression of target games can be used; also consider target games as practice tasks within other game categories.
