Pride PKNU!!

"We have progressed by cutting new paths.

Unknown territories are our great passion!"

Pukyong National University was created in 1996 out of a merger between

Busan National University of Technology, established in 1924, and the
National Fisheries University of Busan, established in 1941.
PKNU is an innovative institution which has been a role model for other
Korean public universities throughout its history of 68 years since Korea's
independence, and in the 18 years since the merger.
"Challenge" has been the constant trait in PKNU's DNA throughout its
long history. PKNU has been cutting new paths. It was the first modern
Korean institution for industrial technology education and for fishery
higher education in fisheries. The merger was also the first among public
universities in Korea.
"Challenge" drives a dynamic future, different thinking, and compassionate
hearts in PKNU people.
We inherited this proud institution from our countless predecessors
who dedicated their time and efforts and we maintain the tradition with
continued dedication for education, research, and community services.
We ask for your support and advice for PKNU in its endeavor to create a
bright future.

KIM Young-Seup
President of Pukyong National University

Pukyong, Springboard for Your Brilliant Future

Busan's First University … Standing tall as a leading university in specialization

and internationalization
Located next to Gwangan Beach in Busan, Maritime Capital of South Korea, the greatest strength
of PKNU is the specialization and differentiation of its academic programs. PKNU was created out
of the integration of two universities, the National Fisheries University of Busan and Busan National
University of Technology, each proud with a long tradition of excellence. Having the longest
maritime research history in South Korea, PKNU is regarded as Korea's best institution in the area
of ocean and fisheries. Engineering is another strength of PKNU with its century old Mechanical
Engineering Department and other faculties such as Nuclear Power, Environment, Energy, and
IT. With these strengths PKNU is ranked high among Korean public universities with regard to the
overall scale, undergraduate entry scores, and graduates' employment rates. Moreover, PKNU
was ranked 1st among Korean public universities in the number of research papers produced
per professor in 2012. PKNU is making continuous progress as a leader in specialization and
internationalization with 20 government-sponsored education or research project teams.

Twenty government-funded education or research project teams …

selected as the best university for the Education Empowerment Program
The Research Center of LED Marine Convergence Technology, PKNU's representative government-
funded project, leads the local and national LED industry by combining the green growth LED
technology and the local strength of ocean technology. The Institute of Fisheries Science which
is anti-aging oriented, the Human Resources Development Center for Nuclear Components and
Materials, the Center for Toxicity Evaluation of Marine LMO are other examples of government-
funded projects that show PKNU's strength in specialization. The south east branch of WISET (Center
for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology) are leading the specialization in engineering.
The Graduate School of Management of Technology (MOT), also known as 'MBA for Science
and Engineering', is offered only by PKNU in the south east area. A master's program for Spatial
Information Studies and a Business MA for FTA are also available at PKNU. Furthermore, PKNU has
received government funding for the Education Empowerment Program six years in a row since the
program was introduced in 2008. In 2012, PKNU was ranked at the top of all Korean universities
in the amount of funding for this program and in 2013 the Ministry of Education evaluated PKNU's
performance as the best among all the public universities that had participated in the program.
PKNU is providing a systematic education and training that addresses basic academic skills to job
searching.

KIM Jaechul, the president of Dongwon Group leading the 180,000 alumni
community
With these specializations, PKNU is ranked high in graduates' employment rate. Mr. KIM Jaechul,
president of Dongwon Group, and the 180,000 alumni are playing leading roles in various fields both
nationally and internationally. The departments that achieved particularly high employment rates
include: △Ocean Engineering △Early Childhood Education △Naval Architecture & Marine Systems
Engineering and △Graphic Arts Information Engineering. In particular, the Ocean Engineering
graduates found jobs at Hyundai Heavy Industry, Samsung Heavy Industry, and the Korea Institute
of Ocean Science & Technology, accounting for more than 80% of employment rates. Also, 67
Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineering graduates were employed at Samsung Electronics
contributing to a 70~80% employment rate for the whole department. PKNU is ranked 9th nationally
in the number of graduates employed by companies owned by the government.

+82-51-629-6461 division endeavors to foster students to become excellent
engineering managers who engage in designing and
managing innovative manufacturing and service systems with
systematic thinking. To this end, our curriculum is composed of
two major subject areas; basic and applied subjects. Courses
in the basic subject area are offered to develop analytical skills
and capabilities, such as data analysis, economic assessment,
information technology, system integration, and optimization.
These analytical skills can then be applied to business decision
making, production system design, production management,
quality management, and logistics management through
courses in the applied subject area.
Our division consists of two majors; Industrial Management
Engineering and Technology & Service Engineering.
Building upon traditional knowledge stemming from industrial
engineering, the major of Industrial Management Engineering
is mainly concerned with the manufacturing systems. On the
other hand, the major of Technology & Service Engineering
deals with an effective and efficient management of service
systems based upon SSME(Service Science and Management
