Task 4: Team Working

a) The roles performed by the team members based on Belbin’s idea

 Mark Wahlberg as Charlie Croker. He himself has been a thief since he had
baby teeth (a flashback shows a young Charlie stealing money from another
kid).
- This character shows the quality of a chairman. He is a self-confident,
controlled person coordinating and operating through others. He basically
leads the team after the death of the character named John Bridger.

 Charlize Theron as Stella Bridger, John's daughter and a safecracker. She

uses technology to crack safes for various agencies, unlike John, who does the
whole thing by touch.
- This character is the shaper of the team. She is generally highly strung
and dynamic.

 Donald Sutherland as John Bridger, Stella's father and a professional

safecracker. His methods are "old-fashioned," handled entirely by touch. Steve
kills him during a shootout in the Alps.
- This character is the specialist of the team. He is a professional expertise
in much project work. He will be disciplined, reliable, conservative and
efficient and be able to turn ideas into practical actions. He is also the
monitor evaluator which is a sober, unemotional prudent sort of person
who analytically criticises others’ ideas and brings the group down to
earth.

 Jason Statham as Handsome Rob. He is the team's premier wheelman.

According to Charlie, he once drove all the way from Los Angeles just so he
could set the record for world's longest freeway chase (a flashback scene shows
Rob being chased down the freeway by dozens of police cars). In doing so, he
got 110 love letters sent to his jail cell from women who saw him on the news.
- This character is the resource investigator. He is an extrovert and
communicative person. In this movie, he plays the role of a getaway
driver and a social person. He will help the team whenever the team
needs a help from an outsider. For example, when they wanted to crack
into Steve’s house, he flirts with Becky to steal all the necessary things to
disguise as a cable technician.

 Seth Green as Lyle/"The Napster". He is the team's computer technician. He

claims he is the real inventor of "Napster", saying that Shawn Fanning was his
roommate in college and stole his idea from him.
- This character is the plant of the team. He is creative, imaginative,
thoughtful and thought-provoking. He solves difficult problems. is also
the team worker who is concern with the relationship within the group.
He is also supportive and tends to diffuse potential conflict situations.

 Mos Def as Left Ear. He handles demolition and explosives. His name
comes from an incident when he was young and he accidentally put a few M80s
too many in a toilet bowl, blowing up the bowl and causing him to lose the
hearing in his right ear.
- This character is the company worker who is conservative and a
predictable person. He is a person who turns general ideas into specifics.
He is also the team worker who is concern with the relationship within
the group. He is also supportive and tends to diffuse potential conflict
situations.

 Franky G as Wrench, a mechanic that Rob contacts to engineer the MINIs to

carry the gold. He also assists in planting explosives to drop the armoured car
into the subway, where he serves as the lookout.

- This character is the finisher of the team. He is painstakingly orderly and

conscientious. Hence, unpopular, but a necessary individual he is the
perfectionist and progress chaser ensuring that timetables are met.

b) The team blockages based on Woodcocks’ idea

 Edward Norton as Steve. He is the "inside man" during the Venice heist, but
later betrays Charlie, John, Rob, Lyle, and Left Ear in the Alps and leaves them
for dead.
- This character is the blockage of the team. At first he’s with the
team.Planning and follow with the mission.Once the mission is
successed, he and his man took all the golds and kill one of his former
member.Actually , Steve had been planning this betray plan for a long
time.
c) The ways on how to make the team effective
1) Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
If you have a problem with someone in your group, talk to him about it. Letting
bad feelings brew will only make you sour and want to isolate yourself from the
group. Not only does it feel good to get it out, but it will be better for the team
in the long run.

2) Support Group Member's Ideas

If a teammate suggests something, always consider it – even if it's the silliest
idea you've ever heard! Considering the group's ideas shows you're interested in
other people's ideas, not just your own. And this makes you a good team
member. After all, nobody likes a know-it-all.

3)No Bragging
It's one thing to rejoice in your successes with the group, but don't act like a
superstar. Doing this will make others regret your personal successes and may
create tension within the group. You don't have to brag to let people know
you've done a good job, people will already know. Have faith that people will
recognize when good work is being done and that they'll let you know how well
you're doing. Your response? Something like "Thanks, that means a lot." is
enough.

4)Get Involved
Share suggestions, ideas, solutions and proposals with your team members.
Take the time to help your fellow teammates, no matter the request. You can
guarantee there will be a time in the future when you'll need some help or
advice. And if you've helped them in past, they'll be more than happy to lend a
helping hand.
