Israel cultural dimensions analysis

According to Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Theory by Geert Hofstede, it is used to

analyze the difference between cultures of each country which impact on a business perspective.
This framework consists of six dimensions which are power distance, individualism versus
collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, femininity versus masculinity, short-term versus long-term
orientation and restraint versus indulgence. This article shows the Israeli culture based on
Hofstede’s theory .

1. Power distance
The power distance index of Israel might ranked low because of people’s belief about the
independent, the equality rights and empowering (Matthew D., 2012). Israeli people can gain
respect among team by showing their ability and expertise. The working environment in Israel is
quite informal, therefore there is a small gap between team members.
2. Individualism vs Collectivism
According to Shifra Sagy (1999) mentioned that Israeli society tends to be a
collectivism. People focus on the family relationship. It is also appeared in the religious group in
the country which leads to the idea of shared values, interests and attitudes.
3. Uncertainty avoidance
Due to the conflict situation in the past, Israeli people want more stability. From the
IORWorld.com, this index is high in Israel because people are more likely to avoid risk. Due to
many uncertainties nationwide, Israeli government regulations are defined and people favors
those rules strictly.
4. Femininity vs Masculinity
According to Hefstede insight, Israel is a neutral ranking in this index since there are a
huge immigrant group with various beliefs. Israeli society values both success and maintain a
level of emotions at the same time. People tend to show their society status toward their assets
such as sport cars, expensive watches and modern-technology gadgets.
5. Short-term vs Long-term orientation
Israeli culture falls slightly low on this index which can described as a normative
societies (Hefstede insight). People value perseverance, truth and future rewards. They also
respect people in their belief and freedom.
6. Restraint vs Indulgence
Israeli people follow the rules and regulations, but on the other hand, people also informal and
very direct. Israelis embrace various lifestyles therefore Israeli culture can be described as
neutral.
