Full wave rectifier

• Peak inverse voltage is the maximum

negative voltage a diode can withstand
with out causing damage
• Full wave rectifier are of two types
• Full wave centre tap rectifier and Full
wave bridge rectifier
PIV of diodes in centre tap
rectifier is 2*Vm
Full wave centre tap rectifier-working
• It uses two diodes D1 and D2
• During positive half cycle D1 is forward biased and
D2 is reverse biased
• D1 conducts and current flows through the load
resistor.
• During negative half cycle D2 is forward biased and
D1 is reverse biased
• D2 conducts and current flows through the load
resistor .
• Current flows through load resistor in same direction
in both half cycles. So, output voltage is
unidirectional.
• Peak Inverse Voltage of each diode is 2Vm
Full wave centre tap rectifier
Ripple factor of FWR is less than that of HWR
