SRI VIGNESHWARA COLD FORGE QSP

PLOT PB 6 /2, SIPCOT INDUSTRIAL PARK,
IRUNGATTUKOTTAI, KANCHIPURAM DT-602 MEASUREMENT SYSTEM ANALYSIS
105 File: iatf\ svcf \ aqms \ qsp

1. PURPOSE
To provide procedures for
1. Assessing the quality of measurement system and
2. Analyze statistically the variation present in the results of each type of measurement system.

2. SCOPE
Applicable to
1. All measurement systems referred in the Control Plan and would be applicable to Quality Assurance and
Maintenance.

2. Product measuring and process measuring equipment.

Note :
A measurement system is to be understood as a combination of the measuring equipment, measurement
procedures, personnel (skills) and software (when applicable) that are used in the process of obtaining
measurements.

3.0 REFERENCES

4.0 DEFINITIONS

5.0 PROCEDURE DETAILS Responsibility &

Authority

1. MME (Monitoring & Measurement Equipments) must be in a state of calibration QAD

Prior to performing MSA studies

2. The range and the average method will be used for performing this study QAD

For variable measurement systems Using MSA Manual 3rd edition (Range and Average method)

For attribute gauges (using MSA Manual 3rd edition)

For process measuring equipment, R & R study can be performed by VPK or on test bench. NABL
guidelines for statistical evaluation of total uncertainty of measurement will be maintained.

3. A Master list will be maintained by QA. QAD

SVCF/ML/CL/03

4. Restudy will be done at least once in 12 months or earlier when there is a change in the following QAD
conditions:
- When product or process tolerance is tightened on the Control Plan ( with respect to studied
product)

- Due to change in resolution or least count / range of the instrument on the Control Plan.

- When the type of MME is different ( Eg. Digital Type, Analog Type, Lever Type and Plunger Type )

5. During the Part Approval Process ( refer procedure QSP 07 ) MSA studies are required prior to QAD
performing preliminary process capability studies to assess the impact of the variations in the
measurement system on measurements.

6. If the measurement system referred on the Control Plan do not present changed conditions QAD QAD
referred in the para 4, existing studies can be adopted for the Part Approval Process
. Otherwise, fresh studies are required to be performed.

The acceptance criteria for R & R percentage will be :

Under 10 % error Gauge system OK

10 % to 30 % error May be acceptable based upon importance

of application, cost of gauge, cost of repair, etc..,

Over 30 % error Gauge system needs improvement make every effort

to identify the problems and have them corrected.

7. When NABL guidelines are used acceptance criteria will be : QAD

Total uncertainty of measurement to be less than 5% at 95 % confidential level

For attribute gauges, acceptance criteria will be :

Effectiveness % Miss Rating % False Rating %

Gauge System Ok >= 90% <=2% <=5%

Marginally
Acceptable >=80% <=5% <=10%

Unacceptable, needs
improvement <80% >5% >10%

8. The R & R study records will indicate the results for follow up actions ( if any ) QAD

Incase of follow up actions, restudy will have to be done

after completion of follow up actions.

Records of R & R studies and follow up actions will be maintained as a Quality Record
